I hear that. We were without power for 2 weeks after a hurricane. Our next house was in the same grid as a hospital. The lights never flickered when half of Texas was without power and many had no water. this past winter.

We have a generator for the frig and devices. For cooking and coffee during the outage we used the gas grill.

^^^Yep, every time I see a stainless steel refrigerator I think of being in a morgue and opening the door and seeing body parts.

using the outdoor grill isn't really an option for those who lose power due to winter weather though. No one is opening the door to go out of doors when the power is off and no heat, nor are they going to walk through ice or snow to get to an outdoor grill.

Yes, there is a small subdivision near our town's hospital and they almost never lose power (and if they do, not nearly as long as everyone else). I've considered living there but it is right next to a major state artery and I abhor traffic noise.

I'd bet Texans would.

So, I've decided on stainless steel. Probably won't be able to afford the fingerprint-less kind, but whatever.

It always makes me a little sad to read posts from people who are actually living in and making a home of a place, but allow some unknown, distant future trend decide what color and type of appliances they buy. Buy what you like. It's your home. If someone doesn't like it when they buy the house, they can replace it.

I'd never let anyone or anything dictate what I put in my home. If I was moving in six months and planned to paint, I'd get something that matched or was popular, but years out? No way. I'm not living with an appliance color that I don't like on the off chance that I might sell in five years and someone else won't like it.

You live in Denver and no one grills in the winter? Around here, we grill all year round. You can't stop living just because of a little snow.

The power company will prioritize the hospitals, but the hospital itself is running on back-up generators. It's not like hospitals never have power outages.

Power outages are becoming more frequent so I've installed a whole house generator. It's no longer a problem.

Hint, though, for those moving to snow country. if you buy on a road that feeds into the hospital, or on a school bus route, those roads get cleared first.
