So, I hear white appliances are coming back into fashion. It seems to me that black's popularity is waning, and people who have stainless steel hate the fingerprints (I do know there is a kind that won't show fingerprints, but in looking at appliances in Lowe's and Home Depot, it seems that it is not common yet).
Every six months or so, put a coat of automotive polish on the stainless and the fingerprint problem will be no more. Makes them easier to wipe clean, also.
My budget is a big part of the problem...I have to buy just a notch above the cheapest stuff, and the fingerprint-free stainless is more expensive. I like the look of SS, but white does look nice with painted cabinets. (see below"
With my dishwasher I am limited also because I definitely want the silverware basket to fit on the door, and not many are like that these days.
Someone mentioned plastic handles and trim yellowing on white appliances...I have this going on right now with my white refrigerator. But I did see one dishwasher available in a "biscuit" color, so we'll say that my fridge has "biscuit" trim and is right on trend. My fridge is one of those without any door handles, so it looks ok and actually does kind of "frame" the doors. Sorta has a "retro" look.
Thanks for all the comments...giving me plenty to think about.
I did a search and did not find anything about this.
We are needing to replace a dishwasher, and possibly a stove, in a house that we will eventually (possibly within 5 or so years) sell in order to downsize.
We now have a white refrigerator, black dishwasher, and almond stove. lol It's a long story, which I won't bore you all with.

So my question in a nutshell is....what color dishwasher should I buy with an eye toward future resale value? (Keep in mind that I already have a white fridge and may have to replace the stove also in the not-so-distant future.) I saw a pic with colored cabinets and white appliances and kinda liked it, myself. The cabinets in this house would definitely need to be repainted by new owners who wanted to update the kitchen, and I don't see the trend toward colored cabinets going away anytime soon.
Stainless steel has been "in" for awhile, especially for fridges, but I've seen it for dishwashers and stoves, too. Doesn't show dirt, smudges, spills as easily as white. But white is nice, too.
I sure have! But it took years to do so. Sometimes you can find a replacement or slightly different handle that will fit the mounting holes on the appliance but don't count on it. If I knew I was going to keep an appliance for a very long time I might buy an extra handle soon after buying it just in case.

If you know this, sort of bolsters the notion that whatever you choose will be replaced by that future buyer. Your appliances aren't matched now anyway. Buy what YOU like and stop worrying about resale.
FWIW (which isn't much as all it is is preference) but I hate stainless. Always looks messy (I find myself fussing over it too much trying to touch up every smudge) and depending on how daylight reaches a kitchen all that grey can make it look dingy. Prefer white. Sure, it gets spotty too, but easier to get it clean IMO.

I dislike stainless, and it's been around long enough to be passe.
I like black, but not everybody does, and you need to tie it in with hardware and decor.
Almond just seems like an unhappy compromise.

white has been around for even longer, so is it passe yet?
Stainless has been around for decades and anyone who thinks it's "trendy" and is going to go out of style is delusional, it's one of the three standard appliance colors.
