Not only do I have 2 bulging discs at C 4-6, and left nerve root impingement (pinched nerve), I also have spinal cord compression (this is the scary thing). I asked him if I could become paralyzed from this if I let it go (no surgery) and he said eventually over time I could end up with gait disturbances and then possibly no movement (paralysis). So, bottom line is... I have to allow someone to operate on my spinal cord/nervous system. I have been crying all day and extremely scared. We are going to wait until I finish taking the steroid taper--once that is completed we will wait it out for 6 weeks, then he will re-examine me and assess me for weakness and pain--if so, then he will schedule the surgery. If the pain comes back after the steroid taper is done--immediate surgery. He cannot inject it because of the location -- C4-6. If it were mid to lower back, then he would inject, but at the neck region that is core nerve bundles--too dangerous to inject.

I'm extremely upset because this is going to force me to take my house off the market and not move to Texas until this entire ordeal is over. There is a 3 month FULL recovery period after surgery.

I did speak to a nurse who recovers these types of surgeries and she said they are fairly simple and people usually have no problems post op. It requires an anterior approach, going in the front of my neck and removing bone/disks that are compressing the cord. Then taking bone from my hip/pelvis (another incision and will probably cause me more pain post op then the cervical incision) and grafting it to my spine where it should be. Basically a spinal fusion. They could use cadaver bone, but I have a 10% chance of rejecting that and only 2% chance of rejecting my own bone. If I reject...It will mean a 2nd surgery with posterior approach, so when the time comes...and it will ...I will go with my own bone.

On a lighter note...wonder if he can remove some fat down there at my hips?

Shelly, I have not been online since Thursday morning and just saw your note...holy moly..now listen, you do what needs to be done for your health...the house is secondary and I know how badly you want to move, but you need to take care of YOU right now, ok. We are ALL here for you, if you want my email let me know, I am usually just hanging around waiting for an email or post, ok. I am a very good listener, as I can speak for the rest of us..

You just need to get better and I can only imagine what pain you are in right now...on the positive side, sounds like your neighbors are angels and you have good support there...

I have to catch up..we are in NorCal house hunting..will catch you up a little alter, working on that first or second, I forget cup of coffee, lol..was up with my kids until 1:30 a.m. now that is a RECORD I am sure...

You know lacy I think we sound like our parents now.lol I was telling dd that I was was engaged when I was 17 and oldest grandon will be that same age in a few months. She put her hands over her ears and said she didn't want to hear that.
That is so nice that your grandson still does that. My two take me aside and tell me things that dd and sil wouldn't understand or so they think. They know I will keep a closed mouth and they can if asked get some advise. They just love their Pop Pop though. He can do no wrong.

Hi campers, mighty quiet here today! Well I just wanted your thoughts on this one. I checked out the MLS to see what I am competing with now, havent looked in awhile. Well I put the search catagories at: Under 400K, 2000+ sq ft, 5+ acres, within 20 mile of here. Only 7 houses came up and I am the lowest and with the most land! It sure looks like the prices are going up here, I am now leading the pack in price. Cant find out till tomorrow what if any has sold. It just doesnt make any sense to me! If nothing is selling how and why are the new listings coming in so much higher?

Hi all, newbie here. I'm trying to buy my first home and had no idea how difficult the process would be. I've visited 20 homes and have done at least 20 drive by's. The home I put an offer on is a short sale, which stinks. I don't know how I'm going to survive it!

Hey campers! I've had a fun, do nothing weekend and just popped on to say HI.Will catch up better later...

Do see newbie Braunwyn WELCOME to Camp! Glad you hiked on in that house buying is some tough work too, finding that 'right' place to make a home. Feel free to join in, let us know where you are! We love to gab about all sorts of stuff and support and cheer each other.

We actually got 3 movies to watch this weekend and just did nothing much, it felt odd to me since I usually am busy doing stuff. Did spend a few hours at the main library. Checked out some goodies.
AND
I saw the Amazing beautiful, talented little miss NJsocks in her heartwarming PRECIOUS pic in Parents mag!!

Well I need to catch up around home camp and will here later, too. you guys have a good night and TTYL!
