Perhaps you did not intend to come off in this manner, but this posts smacks of an incredible amount of condescencion. Sure, I like to go out a lot (along with my ex, who is a retired fireman, who is 39, by the way), but I also work a full-time job and have been with the same chain for around three years. I've worked since 14 and have bought my own clothes and essentials since that age. I am in debt, not out of irresponsibility, but because I tried to carry myself solo through college on my own. I show a grown man 15 years my senior how not to burn his food, and help him count his money so he can pay his bills. I've been through a lot, and I believe I'm fairly competent for someone my age.
How am I contradicting myself? I went to a university for undergrad that was extremely expensive, I had to take out loans. At 24 they're not paid off yet.

Not surprising, because there was a amount (not incredible) of condescension. Save your post from now and reread it once you are in your 40's and you may see why the mild condescension is there in my reply.
I have no doubt that you are a survivor in this World. Good for you for becoming that. And choices you make are yours of course. It is just nice to learn to avoid consequences by knowing ourselves for what we are. And you are a free spirit not ready to settle down into a humdrum existence. Do not be upset that male friends that are in their upper 30's are probably unable to accept that for long.
By the way OP, great sex will be short-lived with this guy. All this alcohol will eventually do a number on his libido. Therefore if great sex is part of the reason why you are hanging around, enjoy it while you can. It won't last.
His cons are stronger than his pros. Alcoholic and controlling? I'd be running. Being more of a free-spirit, I could never be with controlling man. So early in a relationship? Come on.
