If you're a guy under say 5'9 on these sites you might as well be a leper lol..OLD is not very good for us average guys..ive been called pretty harsh names on these sites by women who to be nice arent exactly lookers themselves..

It seems as if old has hirt average mens chances while inflating the ego of average women because of the amount of messages they get and alot of times from men out of their league..
It goes both ways. I just did 3 months on Match. When I cancelled my subscription, I was just shy of 600 profile views. I received a total of 3 messages-two from scammers who didn't even live in this area and one "hey sexy wanna text?"

IME, online dating gives everyone the idea that they can meet more people.
The problem is, societies 'taste' doesn't change just because they are online. If one struggles IRL to date, then they will struggle online.

I don't want to get into a numbers/facts argument, but I know some women that are average women, and yet OLD allows them to EXCEL at dating. Depends on logistics for some.

IMO, online dating is ruining dating.

Online dating has made everyone more shallow. Yes I am shallow, but I refuse to settle. By that I don't mean he has to be tall and handsome but can't be older than my dad, or have kids (especially with different women, yuck)or several other things. I am attractive, educated and all of that but it still didn't help me with dating sites. Men rejected me for being too old, or not thin enough (I'm not chubby even but some wanted very thin)or too tall.

It's a meat market for women. Men are every bit as shallow too, so it's not like men are any different.

If it is any conciliation to you, once you reach your 40s everything flip flops and men have the upper hand. All you need is to be gainfully employed.

Does no good if your sex drive is nearly gone by then. May as well get it while you're young.

Now you have me scared to try Match. I am using POF now and get messages but ignore probably over 90% of them. I guess no matches and bad messages are about the same.

I don't think you are asking to much at all.

Is it because people are too shallow (both men AND women), or is it because with OL-D there are so many options that you simply HAVE to narrow it down? There are so many people online that it makes sense to pick a few things, and let's face it, the easiest thing to do is just pick a few 'shallow' things to dismiss others over. I know most guy dismiss me immediately for my height or weight and that's really not a big deal since I generally dismiss guys for being obese or having crappy jailhouse tattoos.

Yeah, some women will dismiss anyone under 5'9...but if there are 500 guys to choose from and her preference narrows it down to 100, that makes it easier for her. I'm sure she'd be missing out on plenty of great guys, but that's really her loss now isn't it?
