So if you are not sure you believe in a monogamous relationship, why do you want to have children? Children require some level of love and commitment, I personally would never make that life-long commitment to a man who didn't believe in monogamy.
Perhaps look into surrogate or adoption. I can think of few women that would be willing to make this bind to you knowing you haven't made one to them in return.
A little old fashioned but you planning on having someone around to do the job and teach the things that Fathers do ?
Mothers and Fathers each have something different to teach a child.
Sounds like he wants to be the father who is around to teach the child. He just doesn't believe the relationship between him and the mother will last.

Most people still want two parents for their child. It just doesn't end up working out that way, but they didn't plan it. Almost every single mother I know wanted the guy to marry her, but he wouldn't.
It means raising a family, living together, being together exclusively and growing old together. Can this be accomplished without a piece of paper?
Yes. All of these things can be accomplished without marriage. My beliefs are similar to yours. I'm not religious, therefore I see no point in marriage and I don't get why people who aren't religious do it. I know many people who think the way I do. Just be upfront about it and explain that your lack of desire to be married isn't because you fear commitment but because of what you previously stated.
I'm not a big fan of marriage, most men I know have been burned by it and it wrecks of negativity. Not saying all marriages are a bust, but when they do go bust (and a good percentage do) it is emotionally draining.
With that said, I want to have children. Perhaps in the next 2-3 years, up until this point I was running around avoiding LTRs and now I kind of want to get into one, with the right woman for me of course.
Will it be difficult to find a woman that wants to have children without marriage? This does not mean I will just have children with her and then leave her. It means raising a family, living together, being together exclusively and growing old together. Can this be accomplished without a piece of paper?
Here's another concept you're not going to like, the term for a child born out of wedlock is a bastard. What parent would want to purposely do that to a child? If you fear commitment, don't have children.

Being married doesn't have to be about religion. I'm not religious at all but I believe in commitment and I believe in legally binding myself to my husband.
Well for starters, I'm not religious. I guess that means if I were speaking marriage it would be civil. I'm not trying to sound selfish, but perhaps I am. I'm not in favor of the concept. Perhaps a prenupt would work for me. I do not believe marriage is a precursor to raising a happy successful family either.
Trouble waiting to happen. I work with a girl that decided to do this. She has 2 kids. There will be problems that crop up that you never even considered, many times over. Good luck. You will need it.
Somewhat on the fence but I lean towards no. If I ever did decide to have them, marriage wouldn't be a requirement for me.
