Yes, I know this is what guys go through every time they talk to girls.
They smiled at you, so they're not going to reject you. And even if they did, who cares?

Guy 2 asks what's playing at a certain theater. You say, "I don't know. I'm new in town. Is that a good theater? Do they usually show interesting films?" (Optional: "What kind of films do you like?") Anything to keep the conversation going. Let him take it from there.

Guy 1 smiles at you from the counter. You smile back. The ball is in his court now, since you can't approach the counter for privacy reasons (pharmacies don't allow that, unless a 2nd attendant opens a space), and you can't very well start a conversation from behind him.

Is that frowned upon? Might explain a few misread signals then...

It would definitely cut to the chase a lot quicker.

"You like this? Yes? No? Alright then."

He was a customer, not the pharmacist.

I know. Pharmacies require customers to maintain a certain distance from the desk while they're waiting to be served. To give the customer at the counter privacy. It's a requirement. They don't want you overhearing what other customers' personal medical issues are and what meds they're taking, etc.

Oh I see what you're saying. This was actually at the main cash register; I know my OP was confusing because I said local pharmacy, but it was at a chain drug store. Sorry about that.

In both your examples, the guys made the first move. Your job was to act like you welcomed it .

Don't worry, it will get easier with practice!

And minx's plan is a good one.

Why do you automatically think rejection? Why not think potential friend? Take the pressure off yourself. And keep your boobs under wraps.

But I have nice boobs!! They might just seal the deal!!

I guess I think rejection because it goes back to junior high, when you like a guy and he doesn't like you back, and he makes you feel like an idiot.

Stupid at my age, I know... but there it is.

Seems like an awful lot of people on this forum need to get over junior high.
