seriously? Sell the playstation, kick him out (keep the dog) then use that money to pay someone to come in a clean.
You should not have to beg an adult to do something as basic as keeping the house clean.
HA HA HA I recall this issue when I first lived with someone and it backfired.
I complained he could at least do laundry. He did laundry before we met. We met in the laundry room of our apartment complex. It's right next to the pool. So, I know he knew how to do it.
I even had the laundry sorted in baskets in the bedroom and all my dry cleaning laying on the chair. I don't know if he actually meant to help or he was dumb like a fox, but he washed my dry clean only clothes in the washing machine thus absolving him of ever doing laundry again. I did, however, start to hide his dirty underwear in a box in the back of the closet until he had none. Did he ask me where all his underwear went? Oh hell no. He just went and bought more.
Once, we had a party and the apartment was a mess and he decided he wanted to watch the baseball game instead of helping me clean up. So, I just started cleaning up myself and decided to water this plant hanging over the television. Darn thing was as dry as the desert and the water just spewed out and into the back of the television....so much for the baseball game.
Leftover's or partly open and eaten things in the refrigerator. My beef to him was, "If it wasn't on the top shelf of the refrigerator we didn't have it." He was constantly opening something already open in the refrigerator and never cleaned it out. So, one day I took everything, even condiments we had on the door and stacked everything, and I mean everything, on the top shelf of the refrigerator.
Bottom line it was a losing battle and you need to pick your battles.
So you can purchase really cool toys with part of the insurance settlement but you cannot afford to pay someone to come and clean your home.....
Two adults with full time jobs living rent free should easily be able to afford for someone to come help clean the house.
