Only thing she said about her current looks was that HE deemed her "effable enough" to "treat like a human being."

That in no way, shape, or form alludes to her own view of her attractiveness. Good grief!

She had an eating disorder. Trust me when I say people don't get out of those with monumental egos. They fight that voice that says "you're ugly, you're not good enough, fattie," for the rest of their lives. The word "manbeast" probably going to pop into her head one night when she orders dessert five years from now, and if she puts on a couple--and I do mean two--of pounds, she's going to have to cope with that voice getting louder.

You know, for someone who is grappling with mental illness, you could stand to have a little more compassion for someone else who has one, too.

I only have depression though (which is currently being treated). I think something like 25% of the population has what I have. It's not like I have anything far out there.

Only? Depression kills people. It's very serious stuff. That doesn't make you or anyone who has it a bad person. But it does behoove you to try a little empathy. Eating disorders are a form of self-loathing that I would not wish upon my worst enemy. It's suicide just as much as jumping off a bridge, only it's slower and infinitely more painful. Indeed, people with eating disorders tend to grapple with depression.

That doesn't surprised me.

Half the guys who picked on me in school have tried to ask me out.

Luckily I wasn't attracted to either of them. They are still *******s as adults.

Yes, ONLY depression. I'm in therapy and on meds. The future is looking pretty good for me now because I'm working hard on my depression and myself.

I've never been the most empathetic person on the planet.

Well, I'm willing to wager so is the woman in question. She's entitled to a little hard-won confidence. It takes a lot to overcome an eating disorder, including therapy and meds. She went through the wringer because of that guy and his idiot friends. He deserved every word of it--and even he knows it.

Did they act like they were doing you a favor?

Just curious. That happens a lot.

Eating less than an apple a day and skipping dinner isn't healthy

I'm glad she got her shot to explain to him how she felt...and I appreciate that he was grown up enough to write her back and apologize.
