It's is very clear that those promoting an expiration on marriage licenses to make things "easier" have never been married nor do they have any idea what they are talking about. I'm sorry to be so blunt - but an "expiration date" is completely useless in making divorce easier.
I have an idea, I think marriage license should be limited to 10 yrs and requires renewals like passports. This way it gives couples an exit or a renewed vow to stay longer together. Sure, children complicates things but just like a failed marriage.
If things aren't working out after 10 yrs, a couple decides not to renew a marriage license is the same as a divorce anyways. Atleast there is closure and people can move on and not being stuck in their marriage forever.
And there has to be someway to get rid of the children too without all the financial responsibilites. Just because you had children doesn't mean you should be stuck with them. Kinda like pets. When you get tired of them you can just take them to the animal shelter. I mean like, what if you have kids and then realize you really don't like them? Why should you be saddled with that burden? If a marriage license can expire after 10 years why couldn't a kid license be the same?????
Marriage is like a business. Only those with financial means or mature enough receive marriage license. Those who are not mature enough or not financially sound must fall under the marriage contract system.
There would be very few people getting married. The fees, fines and impending jail time along with the complicated rules and regulation would far outweigh any benefits of marriage. People would just do as many are doing, live together and reap the welfare benefits, WIC, FS, housing, etc. As well more men would be going to family court over CS.
If the couple divorces before the end or termination of the marriage contract. Both couples jointly have to pay 7k dollar penalty which can also be taken out of their income tax. Failed to pay both couples will have to spend a week in prison. .if both couples remain married upon the the termination of the marriage contract no penalty shall be imposed.

That's bizarre, to say the least. I don't understand the reasoning behind forcing people to stay married to cheats and liars. Of course, it would be just one more privilege for the rich.
The marriage term is permanent, unless one party wants to unilaterally end it. There is a codified system of division of assets, debts, and children. If you seek a different division, that is what the pre-nup is for.
I used to think a 1-year (not 10 year) annually renewable system would solve a lot of problems. But it would create a system much like baseball or NBA players (I can't wait to be released from my contract and become a free agent!) or getting a quote for GEICO insurance. Why should I stick with Farmers or Allstate or Progressive?
I think Texas has a really GREAT idea: you do not qualify for alimony unless you make it to the 10-year mark.
As long as I have my option to date and not marry, the current system is perfect.
