I think roses are too much on a first date. In fact, bringing flowers at all to someone you don't know is not a good idea, especially if you are meeting somewhere. It's awkward to have to carry them around all night.
i only give stuffed animals if the lady likes them. stuffed flowers on the other hand are cute, easy to carry, and best of all never die and get tossed into the trash after a week.
and i am not even talking about a whole bouquet of them either, just one does nicely. and she can carry it in her purse if she wants without ruining anything.
if i were to buy a lady a stuffed animal, i would first take her to someplace like the hallmark store, and wander around the place with her, and point out a few things she might like, or find amusing, and gauge her reaction to things. and if i spot something she likes that isnt obtrusive, then i would get it for her before the next date and give it to her when i picked her up.
