Ok, I'll try not to embarrass myself by admitting I watched a chick show but maybe I've already done it
So I was on Amazon Prime to watch something while this monsoon blows through and noticed they loaded six seasons of Sex & The City. Intrigued, I watched a few episodes and admit it was entertaining to get the female perspective on dating and sex. Question is, how authentic is it? True to form, pure Hollywood, or a mixture of the two? Who do you relate to and why?
I'm sure to be blasted by the guys but what the hell, the good football games don't come on til later tonight. Besides, if it's deemed as generally authentic from the ladies then it's the same as asking their opinion about their perspective in the open forum. Nothing serious here, just a general question about if the show depicts their views adequately.
I watched it at first and thought it was a fun bit of escapism. Her spendiness was irritating after a while, and I really started to dislike Carrie after she broke the heart of what's-his-name (from Northen Exposure) ... twice. I said I would quit watching if she did it the second time. They all got older but nobody really grew as a person, and they all started becoming caricatures. I'd turn it on every now and then and liked them all less when I did.

OMG I LOVED Aidan.

Yeah...but that seems like a girl's dream come true...would a guy ever actually say "you broke my heart", much less yell it? Sometimes I'm not even sure it is possible to break a guy's heart but maybe that's just me being cynical in my old age...ha.
I was a huge fan of the show and own all 6 seasons on DVD. I would say that there are themes from the show that are generally relatable -- in fact, I have been known to post quotes and clips from the show in response to queries here (most recently, about catching the bouquet at a wedding) because they are so applicable. As someone who was single throughout my 30s and into my early 40s, I appreciated the perspective offered. And the men they dated were not uniformly attractive and wonderful, which was refreshing and not typical of most TV shows. The characters were extremely flawed and human.
That being said, the main characters were four rather extreme personality types who all had fabulous jobs, lived in amazing apartments in Manhattan, and stayed in shape despite constantly going out to eat and drink while only shown exercising occasionally. So there were elements of realism, and elements of fantasy/fashion porn to suck in women viewers.
Hopefully, Amazon Prime is showing uncut episodes, not the sanitized syndicated versions aired on E! and Oxygen. Tip: Don't ever watch the 2nd movie.

Tell me what YOU think, OP!
Nah I kinda agree Renee many guys don't show emotion and are very cold.

I just saw this episode again a day or two ago. He yelled that because she was cluelessly pushing him to get back together and trying to figure out why he didn't want to, after having cheated on him. I think he was yelling to get through to her. And yes, Aidan types would say that. Aidan was always in touch with his feelings and not afraid to show them.
(Which is why the 2nd movie infuriated me: character assassination on Aidan.)

Yep, his yelling that was like a slap in the face that finally got through to her. It was a GREAT moment, just not for Carrie. But it needed to be said.
