I applaud her long showers.

Since the water authorities are punishing us by raising our rates for conserving water, I say USE MORE WATER!

I have my sprinklers on 3x per week and my car is CLEAN!

Last night after another one of her marathon showers, I said you know we have a severe drought. 45 minutes is too long. And while I take 5 min showers, I do realize women have more to do in there. She said "I'll shower as long as I want." And then something to the effect of "you didn't have to move in if you don't like it."

Meanwhile I pay 70% of the rent, since I earn much more than her. I was really put off by her comment. I don't like to find arguments but I'm really turned off by her selfishness in this regard. It makes me wonder if she even knows how bad a drought we have? Not that her actions alone are using up all our water, but it's still not right in my opinion.

By the way, we're both in out 40s.
Thoughts?
I dont really care about this, but the day when certain parts of California Gov't place water restriction meters on individual properties is the day I'm going to seriously laugh. A water restriction meter is a device that is electronically controlled and programmed to measure a certain amount of water used and shuts off the supply after the programmed amount has flown past the meter. I wonder if she'd change her tune if the water just suddenly shut off in the middle of her shower

Wow, a half hour shower? I am with the OP on this. We have seven people in my home and all seven of us can get in and out in an hour. I see it as a waste of time and a waste of water.

I perceive your girlfriend to be both defensive, ignorantly defiant, disrespectful, and inconsiderate. Perhaps she was just having a bad day; if not, I wouldn't tolerate that and get the hell out of that relationship. My wife and I have been together for 17 years and we treat each other with how we ourselves would like to be treated. We discuss our gripes objectively with respect and we try not to nit-pick at everything. I don't think there are too many women out there who can put up with me and of whom I would respect so I feel quite fortunate. She also makes 4X more money than me, but it's never been about the money…she was making $4.25/hr when we started dating.

As for the shower time, I use about 1 gallon of water per shower and my wife averages 5 gallons.

Yes, because that makes perfect sense If you think your behavior is keeping everyone's water bill low, you're mistaken. I believe you are conflating two separate issues. Rising rates and water conservation are correlated, but water conservation is not the cause. The cause of rising rates is due to poor fiscal management of the utility companies who should have built droughts and water conservation into their models. These companies are looking for consistent revenues and that is a flawed model for a utility company to have.

Furthermore, you're adding to our supply problem by wasting water; however, you might be helping to encourage better water capture/storage solutions.

Yea, something is wrong with this picture. It E'rrks me when people waste resources or things and just dont care. Maybe she Is sick ""(You sure she isn't bulimic?)"" as some asked.

Does she double Lock the door during her showers so you have no way of getting in during the episode? Is she talking on the phone to someone else, with the shower running? Maybe she is just taking a long, hard dump. Some medications can cause people have troubling constipation problems. (check with her doctor on how to resolve this issue).

I can see a Long Relaxing Hot Bath with the candles and perfumed oils, or as another mentioned, join her for the first or last 10 shower minutes or for the long bath! Lastly, Have her pay the Water Bill from now on. After a month or two, the situation may get better.. I really like clean, nice smelling women. This however, is Just not Normal!
