Wow, a half hour shower? I am with the OP on this. We have seven people in my home and all seven of us can get in and out in an hour. I see it as a waste of time and a waste of water.

I perceive your girlfriend to be both defensive, ignorantly defiant, disrespectful, and inconsiderate. Perhaps she was just having a bad day; if not, I wouldn't tolerate that and get the hell out of that relationship. My wife and I have been together for 17 years and we treat each other with how we ourselves would like to be treated. We discuss our gripes objectively with respect and we try not to nit-pick at everything. I don't think there are too many women out there who can put up with me and of whom I would respect so I feel quite fortunate. She also makes 4X more money than me, but it's never been about the money…she was making $4.25/hr when we started dating.

If you think your behavior is keeping everyone's water bill low, you're mistaken. I believe you are conflating two separate issues. Rising rates and water conservation are correlated, but water conservation is not the cause. The cause of rising rates is due to poor fiscal management of the utility companies who should have built droughts and water conservation into their models. These companies are looking for consistent revenues and that is a flawed model for a utility company to have.
Furthermore, you're adding to our supply problem by wasting water; however, you might be helping to encourage better water capture/storage solutions.

If you think your behavior is keeping everyone's water bill low, you're mistaken. I believe you are conflating two separate issues. Rising rates and water conservation are correlated, but water conservation is not the cause. The cause of rising rates is due to poor fiscal management of the utility companies who should have built droughts and water conservation into their models. These companies are looking for consistent revenues and that is a flawed model for a utility company to have.
