I don't think it's that big of a deal anymore, but of course there are caveats. I see lots of dudes that can rock the bald head and look good and I'm sure they do well with women.
That being said I'd sell one of just about every body organ where there's a back up organ to not go bald.
For what it's worth...I go in and out of buzzing my hair/growing it back out throughout the year; you'd think that I would get more attention when it's grown back out and styled, but I don't. I would argue that I look far better with hair, but I get noticed and approached way more when I buzz it all down.
Point in case, it really doesn't matter. If you take care of yourself and stay fit, then baldness is nothing more than a fashion choice to other people and how they perceive you. It all depends on your own attitude for the most part and if you're willing to adapt and change the rest of yourself to make it work.
As you can see in my profile pic, I shaved my head when my hairline started to recede and I've had many people tell me that the cue ball look suits me and makes me look younger. I don't shave it every day but I generally shave it a few times a week. Sometimes I have a bit of a beard as well, but not during the summer, like this: //www.city-data.com/forum/45821700-post26.html
As far as dating goes, I'd say the bald look worked out very well for me. I had hair when I met my ex wife and no hair when I met my wife, and I did a whole hell of a lot better this time.
It doesn't matter, what matters is that you work out a bit, have a decent career and make at or close to six figures. Looks only overly-important when your a woman.

I have been thin on top since I was in my late 20's. I never tried to hide the fact and always kept my hair short and never did the comb over or wear hats to hide the fact. I hit the barber once every two weeks and get buzzed down to 3/8 inch all over. I have never had a problem getting a date or been told no because of lack of hair. I have never considered it a problem or been sensitive about it. I have never looked my age and I am a very tall dude, so I always assumed looks, height and personality made up for the shortcomings in hair. LOL.
It shouldn't matter. Just be yourself, do the things you like and be a great guy. IMHO, being insecure and lacking life force is a far bigger problem than being bald. One of the most successful men I know (with women that is) is bald on top, has a bit of a belly and is not more than 5 '7". But, he has a personality and a knowledge of the world that makes him very interesting. He always seems to have a hot gal at his side. Well, until he got married to a very attractive and wonderful woman.

More people need to read this post. Sadly, there's a lot more posts on here about how only the good looking guys get dates or the guys that make $100K a year or whatever. Mostly either by bitter people or by people who are terribly misinformed, like I once was.
