Sorry to hear that. My experience has been that if real affection and respect is involved, the sex was fantastic every time. Making love when two people are comfortable around each other, wanting to pleasure your partner and caring that they are satisfied adds up to never being disappointed... or maybe I've been very lucky.
But if it's only having recreational sex like a sport, then it seems to me there is a tendency for the participants to be selfish and tending more to their own needs and fulfilling their own sexual fantasies. And for example, it's sort of a turn off if a guy told me that he wants to try a new position because he saw it on a porn video. I would interpret his motivation as more of him wanting to fulfill his sexual fantasy and less about making better love with me. But I'm sensitive about nuances.
