Another thing I used to do was 'naughty and nice boxes' I got identical little boxes and each one had something in it that cost 5 bucks or less - like lottery tickets, M$M's, batteries that said, "Gift not included," calling cards, fuzzy dice and one had coal in it.
They were unmarked and it was up to my nephew while he was holding the box who it belonged to. Every year my mother got the coal.
OMG, the next time I need a great idea for a gag-type gift, I'm asking you! You're very creative
Good to know! I know a couple of people with 50th b.days coming up in 2010 and I'm going to need some ideas
Every year I give my nephew one dollar for every year that he is. I put together this whole chinese party in a box to send to him. I pulled up all the Chinese zodiac signs and wrote who in the family was what and went to a restaurant and got a carry out container of fortune cookies and found a gold one with a clasp that opened and put the money in it at the bottom of the carton of cookies.
One year I poked a hole in each side of an egg (takes a steady and careful hand) and blew out the insides, soaked it in bleach, put the money inside, spakled it and spray painted it gold - you'd never know it was tampered with.

Sort of like Easter confetti eggs. That sounds like a decorative way to get some nice cash. Great idea.
