I like how easily and graciously the pair of you handled this spontaneous turn of events for the worse. Both got to see how the other coped in an awkward situation and it ended up an unconventionally encouraging experience.
I mean, you could have sworn and got irrationally angry and she could have stormed off and never contacted you again, but this lady extended herself, and you behaved like a considerate friend. I'm touched by the sweet flow of your interaction.
It is a good sign she didn't get out of there ASAP when the bus showed up.
However, I am wondering why in a huge city like Philadelphia you could not find a diner or anywhere else at 8 pm to have a meal or coffee and sit down out of the cold.
I was in Philly once and I think even the TRAIN STATION has places to sit down and eat (unless they close?). In NYC they stay open past 8 (I think!).
I know bars aren't ideal for first dates, but rather than sitting in the cold, there must have been somewhere warm where you guys could grab a beer or something and shoot the sh*t ?
Hell, surely even Mickey D's would have been better than saying "Oh well, it's closed. What times your bus home ?"

Yes there were plenty of places open but not in the area I agreed to meet her. I decided to meet her near her school which is not near most of the places that would have been open. We made a final attempt and could not locate any other place to sit and talk that served food/drinks. We tried.
I think it well well, considering. She could have gotten on the bus right away but didn't. Next time, plan ahead a little more, make sure you go somewhere that's open (!), and I bet all will be forgiven. It would probably help if you paid for the next date ... not sure if you expected last night to be dutch, but this next one shouldn't be.

Exactly. If I had been the girl, I'd have figured that the guy just really didn't like the way I looked or sounded or something. SURELY there was a bookstore, or a shop, or SOMEWHERE that you can walk around in at least, to get out of the cold and chat. I am really astounded that he just took her to the bus and let that be it.
