Mary and Joseph were both from the tribe of Judah and descendants of David. Joseph through Solomon and Mary through Solomons brother Nathan. Although Josephs blood was not in Jesus, he inherits the bloodline through Mary. Mary had no brothers and was entitled to inherit her familys land as long as she married someone who was also descended from David, Joseph fit that bill and there is no loophole for synics to harp on. Jesus was a biological descendant of David through Mary.
Eh, the likelihood that anyone would have kept tabs on royal lineage 500 years after the fall of judah which 2 times was passed over to return to power is pretty slim. The authors of the gospel were trying to make the claim to jesus being the messiah stronger by linking him with david was all.
Matthew was written by an unknown author and was only attributed to him well after the book was written. The first mention of any gospels comes from papias, and he isn't talking about the gospel of matthew we are reading. Matthew also comes from 3 sources, which the apostle matthew would now have had to use if he was writing his account :-P. So it was written between 80-90 c.e.
I disagree; the simplicity of authorship has been over theorized mostly by those who seek to discredit the bible in any manner they could. The authors of the biblical accounts is so simple, its primary level;
Matthew wrote Matthew
Mark wrote Mark
Luke wrote Luke and Acts
John wrote John, 1-3rd John and Revelations
Paul wrote Romans, 1-2nd Corinthians, Galations, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1-2nd Thessalonians, 1-2nd Timothy, and Titus
Only the book of Hebrews has an unknown Author, but some view the style as that of Pauls.
James wrote James
Peter wrote 1-2nd Peter
Jude wrote Jude.

It was in no manner slim, it was indeed customary and common.
Jesus , while being human, was a visionary and didnot consider this world as his home. Right there is the seditive that all who hope for life to exist on other worlds to engulf. The desire and belief that life exist outside of our own, was embraced by Christ in its reality; there is common ground for the Atheist who believes in life on other planets , and the Theist who believes that Gods reality exist. God IS the life that the pure naturalist suspects can exist!
And Jesus was the forerunner who revealed to humanity that another world indeed exist outside of our own. He was a trailblazzer who was defintely ahead of his time , because his orgin exist outside of time.
My view of Christ is not a white man with flowing blonde hair, who is obviously American; I view Christ as a rugged Arab middle eastern carpenter.
And I think Jesus and God intentionally choose the middle east as the area of Christ ermerging on earth, conversely I think they will focus on that area as their intended return.
And that area holds many keys to just how different Jesus was. The archaeology in that area will continue to confirm Christ, and this area holds many keys to Jesus way of thinking.

Sorry mate. Nice try but the prophecy CLEARLY says that the Messiah will come from David via his son SOLOMON. Mary has no connection to Solomon. She comes via David's other son NATHAN.

It has nothing to do with inheriting land pal. The Messiah MUST come from a MALE blood line back to David via his son Solomon. Sorry about that! Titles cannot be inherited via the mother...only the father.
When Joseph adopted Jesus as his legal son, Jesus became both David's direct descendent through David's son Nathan (Mary's side), and David's legal royal heir through Solomon (Joseph's side).

Nathan was Solomons brother, David was his father- Mary was directly from this family - Jesus was destined to live and mature in Marys womb. Its academic, your cynicism cannot alter history.
