Have you ever attended a Reform Jewish service? Do so before describing it as "not an intellectual experience."

"By their fruit ye shall know them," is really not that hard if you are first convinced that concern for the well-being of everyone in any situation is the correct basis.

I see tzaphkiel beat me to the punch,

Yep. My late wife was fond of saying "I'll take a false sense of security if it's all I can get", and in all honesty, there are times I wish I were constitutionally happy and optimistic and unselfconscious to the point of joyful. I am not a downer to be around but I am not easily impressed and life would be arguably simpler if I were.

At least I'm sunnier than my older brother, who is awfully crusty (though in a mostly lovable way).

There's something to be said for not thinking too much, but we need our thinkers to make the world go 'round too.

You don't have to believe anyone!

If something happens to ring true to you..well, fine...like anything else, if it
doesn't... leave it.

I don't think I will, he's a bit of a wet blanket.
Hmm, litmus test...Satan would have been the opposite of a 'wet' blanket...charred, maybe.

nateswift...that was funny!

That's why I was out having beers with him. God is the wet blanket.

That's about how special we are...we went outside. Duh...

About as special as a complainer compared to simply asking...'May I have a slice? Thank you.'

Choices, always choices...and perspective....attitude...discernment..
Glass half full or the glass was given to the other special guy first...

Edit: I see there is another post really hung up on the word 'special'.

Again...choices...is the billionaire Donald Trump more special than me?
No, he focused on what he wanted and achieved it.
I didn't focus on what he did.
It is about priorities...what you make room in your life for....you have those
that prioritize ice cream and those that workout 2 hrs every day!
Is the guy with the six pack more special?
Do you see what I mean?
Always choices and where the focus of the mind goes.
"Special" is not part of the equation.

I'm wondering if you 2 were ignored as kids while a sibling got more than you?
I am not used to hearing 'special' so much, that's all. It's a curious thing to me.
Some low self esteem issues are apparent...gotta get rid of this comparing, guys.

Or, a two year old in India may ask, "Can I have some clean water or a small ball of rice?"
Maybe they just didn't choose the right religion, huh, or are badly inflicted with low self-esteem.

Yeah, I get more than 'hung up' on that word 'special'.

.
I did forget to ask you..does this only apply when you ask for things for yourself?
Seems as though with this special relationship you could do quite a bit of good if your thoughts were centered elsewhere.
