Or a Hindu/Jain clerk refused to issue hunting licenses because they did not believe in hunting due to their religion.

Or a Muslim clerk refused to issue liquor licenses.

There is an endless list of things that government does that conflicts with SOMEONE's religion. We have no official religion in this country for a reason, despite what the fundamentalists would have you believe. If your conscience does not let you carry out the duties of a secular government, you need to step down.

When they talk about her objecting out of conscience, I kind of want to vomit. She was not drafted into the military as happens to conscientious objectors. She ran for and was elected to her very lucrative position. No one is forcing her to serve. She can step down. But then there goes all that lovely money...

Then those clerks should be removed from office.

He might think he is a Christian but according to Vizio the only reason he has her in his court is because he is persecuting Christians. Freedom of religion means that she has the religious right to force her religious views on all those who work for her as we as all people coming 8n for services from her office. The workers for her should follow her religious views as she is their boss and her agency of the government must follow her personal belief of her religion, anything else is lack of freedom again according to the poster who thinks that contempt of court should not be implemented until all elected persons who have not been charged with anything go to jail first. Not sure if there is any logic there just anti SSM there draped under all kinds of excuses why a citizen should be discriminated against by anyone who wants to including the government itself.

Prior to the 1970s it was COLOR, in the 1930s-1960s it was being a Jew, once it was being Irish, Asian, Native American--today is is being Latino..

Seems the evangelicals always find something to hate about some one...

Between this thread about some obscure Town Clerk in Podunk County Nowhereville, USA that now has over 600 posts & ultra-popular on this forum that scumbum Josh Duggar that racks up post count in record time...this Forum has pretty much become a Christian bashfest.
The NonReligious have done nothing more than become EXACTLY what they protest against. So happy they are giddy that someone that doesn't think like them is getting punished and is suffering!! Instead of rising above that judgmental, intolerant, and biased attitude that the Religious often have...all most of you have done is lower yourselves to being the same way! Sad, very sad.
Jail someone, without bail no less, for bad job performance?! Mass murderers get bail, but this nitwit chick doesn't?!! Com'ooooooon! You are gonna waste the time, effort, and money to incarcerate this woman!! What Bozo thought THAT was a good way to deal with this?! THEY should be put in jail...since they are just as stupid and bad at their job as she is!
There are so many elected and appointed officials that don't follow laws it's not funny. They ignore Immigration Laws, Drug Laws, etc, etc, and people have DIED because of their dereliction...but you don't see them being arrested and jailed.
What a racket! CREATE criminals to keep the judges, and jailers in their nice high paying jobs...at taxpayers expense, of course. Pathetic!
We need to get rid of 95% of the laws in this Country, and the jobs of 95% of the people who draft and deal with those laws. No wonder this Country, and most States, Cities, Towns, and municipalities are broke and swimming in debt!

You gave a basic misunderstanding of bail. People who have been accused, but not convicted, get bail.

Kim Davis is guilty, so gets no bail.

The taxpayers have been paying her $80K a year to be an obscure town clerk in Podunk County, Nowhereville. A sweet little gig she turned into a three-ring circus because she decided she was going to hell if she did her job.

You're right. It's pathetic. She was payed money for services NOT rendered. Was she stealing? Defrauding the people of Podunk County? She should be pilloried for taking money she didn't earn, not lauded by her fellow fundamentalists. Many of whom work very, very hard and will never earn anywhere near $80K a year.

Do YOU get to tell your boss, "I pick and chose what I do. Not you." and get paid for work you don't do? If you do....you've got yourself a pretty sweet little gig yourself.
