A Christian told me today that Christianity is the only TRUE religion and that all other religions are "False" religions. So is Christianity the only TRUE religion?
The "true religion" is the one that is true for you...and that would include "none".
Christians have the Holy Spirit abiding on their spirits , as Holy Spirit is the only Spirit of the living God , as God give His Spirit to the followers of Jesus Christ
Yes, but Hindus have the spirit of Brahma abiding on their spirits and Hare Krishnas have the spirit of Krishna abiding on their spirits. So who's right? You, just because you say so????????
I was raised in an ultra conservative literal Bible denomination.
At least you escaped THAT.....count your blessings You might try looking at the way of life Jesus taught and the promised spirit along with indications of the nature of that spirit and forget about the religious form that are of no value to you.
Buddhism is the closest religion to the truth, IMHO.
This would be pure Buddhism, which is as practiced by Buddha. It consists of
1. Being good and noble
and
2. Meditation
and
3. Understanding that Life is Suffering (for all of us...and somewhat constantly...no matter how many self-help books you read.
#2 will end up answering every other religious and philosophical question that people might have.
Dogma is drama. It has nothing to do with religion. We could call it culture or tradition or something else...but it is not spirituality.

Ha, but Taoism predicted the zero energy universe.

I thought the ' true religion ' was the one that is true to Jesus, and that would be first-century Christianity.
Jesus taught that Scripture is ' religious truth ' at John 17:17.
So, religious truth would set us free from what is religiously false.
There used to be a BIG billboard in town that read to go to the church of your choice.
It should have read to go to the church of God's choice.

You are mistaken: "your word" is not about "scripture," but about the message of God which Jesus embodied. Making an idol of the Bible is in no way true religion.

Amen. We are to learn the true nature of God from the actions and "mind of Christ", NOT the "writings in ink" that tell us ABOUT Him. The detailed descriptions of the Holy Spirit in the Sermon on the Mount, 1st Corinthians 13 and Galatians 5 are our test of what is true to the Holy Spirit of God and what is NOT.
