Actually you can counter their feelings with logic. It's logic that you can't counter with feelings.
"I feel 2 + 2 = 5"
1 + 1 = 2, therefore 2 + 2 = 4
"But I feel 2 + 2 = 5; I really believe it"
Are you open minded?

Is it possible that 2 + 2 does not equal 5?

BTW, to the OP's question, which seems to have been lost; this sub-forum is about religion & philosophy, and allows open debate about one's professed personal religious choices, if they choose to prop them up where they can be shot at. If you don't want that, but prefer warm Kum-Bay-Yah mutual aggrandizement and back-patting instead, go over to the Christianity forum. They'll love you to warm, cuddly bits! (though, I must say, I've seen a few flame-fights over there too. Odd, since they should be "One with God"...)

Certainly. But a truth is a measurable thing, able to stand up to testing, whether laboritory or simple logic and reasoning, and certainly has more of a basic foundation than ancient sctipures whoes every myth and miracle are disproved by simple sciences and basic reasoning.

Just a small nitpick . . . a lie is an untruth that is professed as truth by someone KNOWING that it is an untruth. It is NOT a lie if the one professing it believes it is the truth. This is a common mistake in the use of "lie."

A little nitpick again -- most of religious followers do not know the real nature and the intention of religion, but religious leaders know very well it is a lie and use it to control the followers.
(in other words, the person who made up the God figure certainly knew what he was doing himself -- that is a lie by definition)

Also what about religions that have no clergy or leadership like the Quakers.

You have freedom of religion, I should have freedom from it. But, increasingly the righteous religious right is forcing religious beliefs into the laws of this land!
i dont see the religious beliefs being effectively forced in the law or in the land, work ethic is gone and we got highest prison population on earth.
