+1 for Ivory soap, I don't even like scented deodorant soaps like Irish Spring, much less aftershave or cologne.
During many of my working years, I was a school teacher and then a public librarian. In both jobs, wearing scented products - including body lotion - was forbidden out of respect for those we served who might be sensitive to them.
I have always liked bay rum. I was bummed when Burt’s Bees killed their bay rum product line. I used to use their bar soap and moisturizing aftershave.
I use Method foaming bath wash. I buy the citrus one. I think it’s clementine or ruby orange. Stores seem to only carry the bath gel. The foaming stuff lasts 5x longer so I guess it doesn’t sell as much and gets pulled off the shelves. I internet buy it with store delivery at Walgreens.
Personally, I find the smell of only soap on an older man repulsive. With that said, I try to use only unscented grooming products, and sparingly use Channel Bleu as my cologne. Channel Bleu has a lighter scent. I agree that too much cologne indicates the wearing has never left the Disco dance floor, or the 1980's.
Dove bummed me out when they dropped their Unscented Body Wash for Men. Luckily their 'Clean Comfort' version is almost unscented. Arrid appears to be dropping their unscented stick antiperspirant and I have resorted to buying it on-line.
Drakkar Noir used to be a big turn-on. Don't know if they still make it. Other than that, I agree---NO cologne, just a nice soap and for sure, deodorant.
When I was a kid, I used to hate my grandparents hugging me, as their scent overpowered me. I called it "The old people smell". Later I found out it was just B.O. Too old to have taken up the deodorant habit!
I’m a guy. Please try Proraso Red shaving cream. It is relatively inexpensive, feels awesome to shave with, and has a genuine sandlewood scent. Awesome product. Found at Walmart or Amazon, etc.
At a place I worked at in the Sacramento CA area, there was an upper management guy from the Ireland area of Europe (trying to keep things fairly generic here), and he had not only a sexy accent, but he also smoked cigarillos ( small cigars) and he wore CK One (Calvin Kline One) cologne. Women around the office from the ages of in their 20's to their 60's followed that scent around like he was the pied piper.
I think the key is to not douse yourself with it. And maybe there is more to the smell of a man, besides his soap and cologne - maybe there is some kind of pheromone involved. But, for some men, the combination of smells can definitely be an aphrodisiac to women.
It also helped that he was a good listener, and genuinely liked everyone and his job was to solve problems (quality control).
I won't say that smell alone will make a man get lucky - but for the guy I'm mentioning above, his wife definitely had reason to worry :-)
And his attraction, to a majority extent - had to do with his smell. So, considering this is not nothing.
I used to smoke a pipe [I was very discriminating in my selection of tobaccos]. I got a lot of compliments from the ladies.
Just wondering if there are any women out there that care to share what their favorite aftershave or cologne they prefer men to use?
Aramis, an older one but oh so good to smell....
