Misviolar-
Why the Richmond Suburbs? If you want to feel isolated move there and you'll see. Why not Richmond proper? I moved here, and now know everyone on my block, we have house parties, dinners, and 3 of them have keys to my house to watch my pets when I'm away. I've been invited to some of the biggest parties in Richmond through my neighbors.
Georgia - I'm not sure what FFV is? I know of the Daughters of the Confederacy, etc but FFV I haven't heard of yet...

Jamier7 -

I'm a private kind of person. I am so sick of urban life. It's not me and has never been me. I only stayed in Philly for 25 years because that's where my husband is from.

I'm getting old (45) and it's time for a change of scenery. I want to be able to take my shoes off and walk around a yard and not worry about something foreign being stuck in my foot. I want my children to know that there is something out there other than Philadelphia.

Isolation is calling me!
Yeah, I'll work in Richmond.
But at the end of the day...

I live in Memphis, TN and am looking forward to a move to Richmond. I do agree that you have "snobbish" people living everywhere. I love the south and would never move above the Mason Dixon line if I can help it.
I have spent a small amount of time in southern California, and the people took a little getting used to there...

FFV references the First Families of Virginia.

That is correct. Richmond holds many FFV'rs, and not to generalize many are not your snobby folk, however, some are since they are the Fiiirrrrrst Families.
Kind of like VA royalty
Being an old hick from the other side of the tracks I like to nudge once in awhile as a SCV who's great great grandpappy was an officer in the Stonewall Brigade. Stonewall of course was a "West" Virginny boy

Wealth and privilege (i.e., the West End) usually generate snobs and unfriendly people. Poverty and neglect (80% of Richmond) generate another form of unfriendliness which makes itself know in criminal activity and violence. Take your pick--both co-habitate nicely!

Wondering the same thing myself! I am orginally from upstate NY and moved here from south Fl where I grew up. Not seeing "southeren hospitality" and the cost of living is outrageous! I thought fl was expensive. Although where I lived in Fl, people were very friendly, not so many cliques, and most of us were from the North. I live in the Far west end, eastern Goochland county, my son loves his school, and for that reason we will probably stay, maybe I'll go back to Fl when I retire, like so many do
