Does anyone have a recommendation for hanging Christmas lights on the house? I think as high as our gables are, I'd rather have a pro do it.

Thanks!

I always help my neighbor hang hers since she is in her 70's and climbing a ladder would be dangerous to her.

Maybe you could ask a neighbor to help you out? (Not saying you are old!)

Heard an interview on the radio with the owner of one of the bigger companies in town that does this. He said his company has been booked solid with work since August and has been installing lights non-stop since October 1. You may be far too late in the season to get in with the best companies this year.

Last year, San Antonio Holiday Lighting - Lawn & Yard Services - ABC Services San Antonio got into this business for the first time. They are my pest control provider and I have never used them for anything else. Just guessing that as one of the newer entries in the market, you might have a shot at getting on their schedule.

I am surprised that there are companies that specalize in this type of work. It is more of a handyman job or what a wife makes the husband do!

I know one thing - wrapping oak trees with lights is a pain in the behind!

M2F

Our house is "tall" and we finally figured out a way to decorate without requiring me to risk my neck trying to hang lights along the roofline!

Now we simply put them around the garage door, through some shrubbery, around the front door and then some more shrubbery. All can be done without the need of a ladder or step stool. Of course my wife hangs a wreath, and we have a few other Christmas decorations out as well.

Honestly, it still looks pretty good and I have given up on trying to compete with my "Griswold" neighbors! I don't know why it has become such a competition to see who can decorate their house more lavishly, the spirit of the holiday is not tied to how much electricity you use to commemorate it!

Just a suggestion, take it for what its worth. Good luck in finding a service to help with this, one would believe with "the economy" being what it is, there would be less people wanting to pay for such services; but apparently that's not the case.

And I would continue looking, as there has to be many companies that offer this kind of work!

Good luck! M2

Sorry M2F....I missed the part where you said you would rather have a pro do it. Scratch my comment about asking the neighbor to help out.

It may not work for M2F, but for others....

Years ago, Dad taught me a "trick" that's saved me countless hours on ladders over the years. I install cup hooks under the eaves. Once done, then it's just a matter of a "stickita" (Dad LOVED coming up with oddbal names) of 1" x 2" wood with a small "v" cut in one end. Put the wire in the notch, and raise and hook it on the hook. I ran 80' of Christmas lights Sunday afternoon in about 20 minutes that way - taking 'em down is simply the reverse. Takes a little time to install the hooks initially, but WAY faster (and safer) in subsequent years!
