I was thinking Roosevelt sounded familiar. But that's such a long street that I couldn't begin to pinpoint what or where anything might have been that long ago.

Re: Navarro Street Bridge....now that I think of it, that just can't be it because it's TOO close to town....the one east of it is the Presa Street Bridge by "Marriage Island"...and this is a historical bridge...and right by the Arneson River Theater...again too close to town.

I might check with the Conservation Society. They would definitely know.
Or Mudpuddle? Where is he? I bet he would know! They could at least let me know if I'm crazy or not!

There was never a Nolan St. bridge but rather a railroad viaduct that allows cars to pass under the SP tracks on Nolan street. Years ago the Nolan St. viaduct was a narrow thing that barely allowed cars to pass in opposite directions, The current one is much wider but serves the same purpose of allowing trains to cross over Nolan St. eventho there is far less railroad traffic than in past years. And thanks to jg1208 for recalling the old Goliad Rd./Old CC Road bridge over the "Slough"(rhymes with cow) as we old timers still call it. That thing was an antique for sure and I have regretted for many years never taking a foto of that Model A vintage bridge before its demise.

Is anyone familiar with the old landmark - Bowen's Island? My family used to own that before the big flood.

What about Smith Young Tower which is called Transit Tower?

Our relatives owned San Antonio Drug Company?

My aunt used to run the Governor's Palace.

Lots of history. We ran the first Post Office downtown, etc.

That's interesting! Wasn't San Antonio Drug Company on lower part of Broadway? Where is/was Bowen's Island?

If you go back to page 207, 209 and 211 of this thread or search...GWHopper did some research on Bowen's Island/Mill. There are several photos posted on those pages. It was near the present day Tower life building.

Here is a little bio on John Bowen, the island's namesake.

That's amazing! I may have some info on your family that you may not have.....at least some historical references that tie into them. I will have to DM you later. I also have an ancestor that was an early downtown resident.
They probably hung out together! He came to Texas in 1849....and was assassinated on E. Commerce ST about 3 miles from San Fernando Cathedral. SA was wild and wooly back then.

BTW - I was busy today! Got some leads on my mystery bridge. I have an older relative that remembers it vividly, but also can't name the street. Talked to Texana, the Conservation Society Librarian and the ITC Librarian. I have some amazing info that I'll hopefully get tomorrow....pictures and maps!
I'm such a nerd!
