My dad had a 1979 Oldsmobile Royale. He gave it to me in 1994 because it wasn't worth anything. He kept it in the garage so it was in good shape. I loved that car. Indestructable. 350 quadra jet with a hydramatic tranny. Just like a corvette! The junk yards were full of them and a lot of buick parts were interchangable. In 1995 a new fuel pump cost 12 dollars! Gas prices and rust were it's eventual demise. It still ran fine when I surrendered it to the junk yard 2007.

I had a 74's Olds Cutlass Supreme Cranberry red with the white half-top. 350 Quad ran really nice and really sporty. Nothing like my 67' Camaro of course.

If I heard right I think its the vacant lot across from Sunset Funeral home, at the corner of Austin Highway and Eisenhauer.

Oh wow... yes, there was nothing like the Camaro. Back in the early '70's, I used to date a guy with a Camaro and he used to race it on a race track on the south side of town. It was awesome!

I used to really like the appearance of the Olds Cutlass. I wanted one so bad. Instead, what'd I get? A 1969 Buick Skylark. It wasn't much of a car, but I will say this for it... I literally drove it until it wouldn't drive any more. It took me everywhere I wanted to go whenever I wanted to go. I made lots of trips down to Corpus and points beyond in that car.

Good times...

I liked Fargo's Pizza. The Shakey's at Goliad and Clark was short lived as I recall. Went in there a couple times in early to mid 70's.

Default Yes Lily Lady,

It was a huge car the 1966 Catalina, it was quite the car in its' day.
It was a real Dazzler. I think it was only about $3000.00 new.
Now it would cost $30,000.00.

I won't miss Pontiacs but Oldsmobiles were good cars. Sharing traits with other GM products. I heard recently either 75% or 90% of GM autos are built outside US. GM just made a big deal with China I think. They won't get my business.

Default Only One,

There was only one original muscle car, the 1964 GTO.
I had one, and a 1968 442, the GTO was more to my liking. With more of a small car feel to it, it was nicer to drive, I thought..
I sorely wish I had never sold those cars.
As far as Detroit is concerned, I found it to be Ford Country.
Dearborn, a suburb, in particular, you couldn't get away from it there. The Ford name permeates the entire place. Everywhere. As the name Alamo, does here.

I had a 1982 Buick Riviera. Bought it from an employee who worked at Orsinger Buick on San Pedro. It was a nice car when it wasn't giving me electrical problems. I lost count of how may starters and batteries I had to replace. Since We the People had to bail out a failing company with our tax dollars,GM will NEVER get any of my business.

GM has NEVER gotten my business, and never will. I did almost buy an Opel from Orsinger Buick once. I've also never owned a Ford product. I have owned AMC and Chrysler products, but have since turned away from Detroit cars forever.

I have an American built Toyota Corolla, and an American built Nissan truck. They are the best vehicles I have ever owned. The Nissan truck is 19 years old and has needed less repairs in 19 years than my final Detroit car, a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim LX needed in it's first six months.

The time that Detroit built good vehicles is LONG gone, but not forgotten.
