Centenos off of Commerce. Does anyone else remember this place? As a kid I remember walking in there and seeing the hog head...yuck!

Speaking of Handy Dan's, the Handy Dan on Loop 410 and Vance Jackson got remodeled in the early 80s, and Clayton Moore, aka The Lone Ranger made an appearance there to celebrate the renovation. I took my kids, but I was more impressed and starstruck than they were. We got autographed pictures, and I talked with Mr. Moore for a few minutes after he left the stage.

My neighbor and I were working on our fence not too long ago and his "square" still has a Handy Dan price tag on it!

A good friend of mine's wife was managing that store around that time if I recall correctly. I've found items that still bear Handy Dan's name as well as Sutherlands.

i remember Centenos off of Commerce went there as a kid with my parents, then a few years later the one off of I35 was opened-- do you remember Centenos off of Southcross and I35-- went there several times it was a two part business, the big hall like area dividing the clothing and wares dept from the grocery dept, there were no other, say like, shopping mall experience maybe Shoppers and Woolco and of course "Las Palmas Shopping Mall with the big Joske's store-- but this was a few years ago---- as a matter of fact I still own a set of oval plates that i bought at Centenos close to I35 and Southcross

I am helping my dad clean out his garage. Anything with a tag from Fed Mart , Gulf Mart, Handy Dan, Alamo Interprises or Builders Square gets tossed in the dumpster.
