Boss,

If you saw Jerry Lee Lewis at his first concert* in SA, we saw the same show. Even got his autograph after the show...
on my school library card! Also recall seeing several Dick Clark-style "Caravan of Stars" at the auditorium. They were
amazing, half a dozen top recording stars at one place at the same time. Don't recall the prices, but seems none were
over $2.00. This is 1956 -56. KTSA was the big promoter at the time, although KONO did some too.

* At the time Jerry Lee had only three hits, "Whole Lotta Shakin", "Highschool Confidential" and "Breathless".

Rancho,

Surprising you still have the program from the show! Ok, lets see if anyone can identify the acts shown.
Starting from the top, down and across, he's my submission:

Fats Domino
Frankie Lymon
Clyde McPhatter
(? dunno', anyone know?)
Everly Brothers
Paul Anka
Chuck Berry
The Crickets, with Buddy Holly

This is an example of the "package" shows, as they were known. Better times in those days;
the last time the Rolling Stones played Las Vegas, tickets were $125. - $295. ! Soon it will require
taking a second mortgage to see your favorite act!

Basse: I'm thinking that mystery guy looks a lot like Bobby Vee. (Devil or Angel - 1960)

Oops. never mind. Bobby Vee didn't get started until 1959. More likely it's Richie Valens.

Basse,

These artist were also on the bill,

LaVern Baker
The Drifters
Eddie Cochran
The Diamonds
Buddy Knox
Jimmy Bowen

I just don't recall who among the above is the
fourth one below Clyde McPhatter.

btw: Tomorrow I will find out if my mortgage loan is approved.
If it is , I can take my family to the movies...

Mud,

Now that the brain is opening the archive cell storage area:

Just west of San Pedro, north of Basse, adjacent to the creek
(long before it had the cement lining) there was the ruins
of what appeared to be an abandoned farm. It was in the advanced
stage of derelict! Closer to the creek were several out buildings
(barns?) in equal condition.

As we navigated the creek on our homemade rafts ( I'll spare
readers the description of those!) we, being curious 10 year olds,
"explored" the buildings nearest the creek. They contained what appeared
to be trash (which in reality was probably stored personal possessions).

Among the "trash" were several water damaged (leaky, nearly collapsed roof)
boxes containing badly weathered books. One box contained what appeared
to be a collection of leather bound books of original Civil War photographs.
The photos were full page with titles. We spent a few hours looking through
several (no idea how many there were in total) of them, marveling at how
"neat" the pictures were. While tempted to "rescue" said books, they didn't
belong to us, and as it was clear they would not survive much longer under those
conditions, being kids of the early 50's, we left them where we found them.
Besides, there was no way to "raft" upstream with an arm load of wet books
and a push pole.

Many years later I learned that not long after the Civil War, a large number of
Matthew Brady photographs were published in a limited edition collection. The
sets were expensive, as they were the highest quality available at the time.
In the illustrations displayed in the review of those now very rare ( and very
expensive) editions, I realized they were exactly the same ones we found at the
abandoned farm! (my first experience with "barn finds"!) I've been kicking myself
ever since I learned what they were worth!

As best I can remember, by the mid-late 50's the entire farm was gone without
a trace. Seem to recall a landscaping business used the area for equipment and
raw material storage.

Could be. The photo isn't clear enough to tell, but of the folks listed as performers at the time,
she was one of the more popular in SA.
