Not necessarily true. For the most part, HEB owns the land/building of the old store and therefore will not sell it to a competitor. They may also be leasing the building and still have over 20 years remaining on the lease. If this is the case, they continue to pay the lease. They usually sub-lease out to seasonal stores like the halloween costume store. Most of the time, they are paying a lease on a vacant building. It's better for them than letting the lease go to a competitor.

That's to generate impulse shopping. Wonder why WalMart doesn't have signs on each aisle?

I understand why it's set up that way, I understand the marketing aspect. It's lost on me because I won't shop there because of it.

I agree, the Plus concept leaves me cold. I don't impulse shop a tire, bike or TV when going for a pint of sour cream or cookies.

If they want to be WalMart - put in a gun section and check my oil.

I would so MUCH prefer a real Central Market. I was just today thinking about their dark rye bread that is SO perfect, especially with a really hearty homemade soup. Too bad I rarely get over to the Broadway CM, so far from us.

Yes, I just don't GET it! Now, if they'd have a Central Market...that would be different!

These new HEBs need to create a new "fast lane" in the grocery aisle for those of us that don't have time to wait for the slow pokes. We're talking 5mph+ faster when pushing the cart.

It was rumored that Acadamy might move in but I noticed a "for lease" sign so I'm guessing that fell through. Too bad the city can't bull doze abadoned buildings
