Crime in SF is bad enough yet isn`t in the top 25 cities as far as stats go.

Oakland is #3 in the nation which is horrible no matter how anyone attempts to spin it.

Where exactly do you think these people are coming from? They usually aren't from San Francisco. They come from Oakland, Richmond, Hayward, etc.

Hayward's crime rate is exactly average for California, and far below San Francisco's.

When they ask, "is it safe in Oakland," they're being polite. The non-PC question would be, why do you live in an unsafe city? A look at crime statistics verifies that it's a high crime city. Most likely because it's much Cheaper than SF, SJ, or the Peninsula.

I'm glad you brought this up. Yes, Oakland has a lower average price than San Jose, but at the top of the market, it's a different story.

Cities by Neighborhoods with an Average
Sale Price $1,000,000+ Aug-Nov 2013, Trulia.com

San Jose
1 Almaden $1,064,618

Oakland
1 Skyline-Hillcrest Estates $1,472,200
2 Crocker Highlands $1,225,000
3 Hiller Highlands $1,218,000
4 Upper Rockridge $1,095,370
5 Montclair $1,016,214

Also, this is very interesting to me:

Median Price 4 Bedroom House, Aug-Nov 2013, Year-Over-Year Change, Trulia.com
Oakland $758,000 +51.6%
San Jose $725,000 +17.2%

Also, perusing trulia, I discovered that Oakland is considerably more expensive than many many cities with much lower crime rates. WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT IS?

LOL

Detroit has million dollar homes too but so what? The crime rate is still way out of control.

Hmmm...this is interesting.

Median Price 4 Bedroom House, Aug-Nov 2013, Year-Over-Year Change, Trulia.com
Fremont $777,250 +11.8%
Oakland $758,000 +51.6%
Dublin $755,500 +10.8%
Milpitas $740,000 +15.5%
San Jose $724,000 +17.3%
Castro Valley $710,000 +21.7%
Livermore $649,500 +25.9%
Hayward $542,500 +27.6%
Concord $475,000 +35.7%

It's interesting how expensive the immediate Oakland Area actually is:

Median Price 4 Bedroom House, Aug-Nov 2013, Truila.com
Piedmont $1,407,500
Berkeley $1,245,000
Kensington $1,172,000
Alameda $854,000
Albany $769,000
Oakland $758,000
San Leandro $560,000
*No 4bd data for Emeryville

For comparison:
San Francisco $1,107,000
South San Francisco $800,000
San Bruno $755,500
Pacifica $720,000
Daly City $641,000

Not bad 510.

INCORRECT. Those are homes in suburban Detroit, not the CITY of Detroit.

The most expensive single family home or single family home or residential lot currently for sale in Detroit proper is $795,000.

The most expensive expensive single family home or residential lot currently for sale in Oakland proper is $14,000,000

Anything else you need help clarifying?

Im just saying I know quite a lot of people who go to the city and just hang out, sell dope, act like hoodlums. A lot of the gangsters in San Francisco aren't from San Francisco unless you are in the Bayview or Fillmore.

Why would you cross the bay to torment people. Those people live right there in San Francisco.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

Yeah, the notion that gangsters 'commute' to SF is a bit laughable.
