As someone else mentioned, Jake's has pretty good cheesesteaks. Try Buster's in North Beach as well.

As for the air quality, even a bad year for air quality in San Francisco is still far better than most US Cities. That breeze off the Pacific is so nice and refreshing.

The homeless people agree with the OP. That's why there are so many of them.

Yeah, I guess you really got us on that one. I'm sure the city will clear out once people remember that natural disaster may strike every 150 years or so. Then, they can all move to other parts of the US, where there are snowstorms, tornados, and hurricanes on a regular basis. ;-)

The hands-down worst argument I ever heard by a Southerner who lived in Charleston (hurricane city!) was that they could never live in CA because of all the sharks in the ocean.

The people recommending them aren't crazy. As someone who has eaten many cheesesteaks in SF and a few in Philadelphia, I can confirm that SF has a couple legit places. I'm sure the best you can get in Philly is probably better than the best you can get in SF though (and cheaper). Mmm cheese steaks (cue drooling).

How is that sad? Sounds like dedication to me. They opt to fly in the authentic stuff instead of settling for something else.

Seems like the OP's sentiments are reasonably common to people who visit SF

Until this last summer, I had never been to San Francisco. From what I'd read about it, I always thought it would be a good fit. When I finally made my way to a day in the city, I was done for. From the minute I got to there, I knew it was where I wanted to settle down.

I currently live in St. Louis. I used to think of St. Louis as this little hidden gem. Like an undiscovered secret that I was being let in on. Now that I've been to SF, I can totally see why the cost of living here is so low. It's a sh*thole in comparison. Or period, really.

I'll definitely try them out when I move to the Bay Area, hopefully within the next two years.
