10 times out of 10 a person will choose san francisco's chinatown over oakland's. for reasons that needn't be posted. same reason people go to giants games more than a's games. why 49ers games are always on TV and why raiders games are blacked out some times.
That's funny, I could have sworn I just walked by hundreds of people today who spontaneously happened to be in DT Oakland at the same time I was. By the way, what the **** does a Walgreens have to do with Uptown, Chinatown or Old Oakland? You act as if there aren't numerous music venues, bars, restaurants, etc. that draw people to spend the evening in Oakland. Your comments are so unrealistic that I have to wonder whether you've been here at all.

And next to nobody from the Bay Area goes into SF Chinatown for any reason other than to take some visitors to see the tourist sites. Oakland Chinatown on the other hand is well known for its authentic Cantonese cuisine and the fact that it's a neighborhood instead of a tourist attraction. Just about the only person who chooses SF's over Oakland's is a tourist.

I didnt compare downtown oakland to the tenderloin. the fact that people are comparing the 2 speaks for itself. the 1 square block that makes up union square in san francisco > ALL of oakland's downtown. all of it. oh wait the amazing shops and ambience in old oakland are so much better right.
dont understand why people get so sensitive over oakland. not like people are flying from other countries and cities to visit it for u guys to be so 'proud' of it. and thats why the warriors and A's will probably leave.
People are comparing the safety of DT Oakland vs. the safety of DT SF. Simply put, there is no Tenderloin in Downtown Oakland. If we were discussing shopping, that's when your comment about the lack of a Union Square in Oakland would be relevant.

Nobody's being sensitive about Oakland, they're pointing out how laughable it is that someone like you is able to say something like this:

Quote:
downtown oakland is shady as hell after all the business people leave to go home. during the day its nice but when the sun goes down it just feels weird. and yea tenderloin is an anus but theres more people around so it doesnt feel as unsafe.
with a straight face. The Tenderloin doesn't feel as unsafe my ass. Might as well just say you're scared of Oakland period and be done with it.

Yup pretty clear you haven't been to downtown Oakland since maybe even the 80s. I don't know why anyone would want to see a show at a concert at an Art Deco theater like the Paramount or the Fox.

Or why there is a new article every 6 months about all of the "cool bars and restaurants" and first Friday's Art Murmur in national publications in Downtown.

Or why every 2-3 weeks there is some new opening of a bar or restaurant downtown for about the past 3 years now.

Naahhhh. These are just hallucinations of the delusional Oakland boosters.

Sounds very much like it. In fact, it's getting to random kiddie rant status.

I'm surprised this is even being debated. Downtown Oakland is a ghost town after people leave from work. It literally has nothing to keep people there anyway.

Yawn.

It would have been easier for you to simply admit that you are ignorant about Downtown Oakland than to continue this strange vein about no one wanting to go to Downtown Oakland when that is clearly not true.

The Tenderloin is a third world trash heap compared to Downtown Oakland, which is comprised of a waterfront area, a Chinatown and now even an arts and entertainment district.

Do educate yourself before you speak on things you obviously know nothing about.

And the opposite would be for you to leave your utter ignorance aside and face the facts.

^The irony of this is almost palpable.

lmao there's a lot of ppl with inferiority complexes here about Oakland. ppl from across the world go to San Francisco. nobody cares about Oakland. even people in the bay area dont care about oakland. the warriors will soon leave, and if A's management is smart they'll also get out of that barren turd heap they currently play in. soon the only team that sorry ass city will have is the raiders who have been.thinking of leaving too. but.its not because Oakland sucks right? they're leaving because Oakland is so great! the area outside the coliseum is 100x better than China basin

you guys keep hyping yourselves up about your "waterfront" lol and talking about the tenderloin as if that's a place anyone cares about. funny thing is you'll find more ppl in the tenderloin than you'll find at an A's game.
and lol@ comparing Oakland's Chinatown to San Francisco's. lets compare Oakland's amazing skyline to San Francisco's too. and their amazing tourist attractions that.draws hundreds of ppl every year. hahahhaha

Yeah, I'm seriously trying to figure out what people are talking about who think Oakland's downtown is some culturally vibrant area where people go to hang out and shop after 5pm on a weekday.

Is it the AMPCO Parking lots? The Rite-Aid?

But I better stop trying to get actual facts from this discussion, otherwise we're both going to be accused of being this mythical "Mr. Fantastic" who seemingly was a member of this board 2 years ago. I'm guessing he actually left of boredom, but his memory lives on apparently for the Oaklanders.

Blah Blah Blah.

This is simply trying to change the subject and has ZERO to do with the comment that got you in trouble in the first place.

Im not surprised, I might be inclined to do the same thing if I were slapped down the way you were.

You said that no one wants to go to Dowtown Oakland at night and that is what you need to prove true or else shut the hell up.

lol

Downtown Oakland's population has soared by a third in the past decade and that alone shuts you down. Yawn.

So what else ya got except boring hyperbole?
