Tomasitas is o.k. if you want the tourist experience. I'm not a big fan of the place. Long waits in line at times, little atmosphere, and just average food. It's sister place is Tia Sophia's, another nice little tourist hangout. I do like Tias for breakfast if you get there early.

Towanda, I believed that you asked about the Galisteo Inn. Their restaurant, La Manch is really good. The chef, Kim Mueller, is terrific; she buys ingredients from the Farmers' Market and incorporates them into her menus. I've eaten there a few times and have never been disappointed. In addition to the food, the atmosphere is wonderful - either in the 18th Century (well, maybe it dates from the 19th) dining room or out on the back portal or garden.
One doesn't need to spend a lot to enjoy some really good food in the Santa Fe area. Here's one example I haven't seen mentioned - the Copa del Oro in the Agora center in Eldorado. It's under new management (I forget the name of the previous restaurant that was there) and these folks are doing a terrific job. Check it out......
I think Tomasitas is great. I'm a NM native and it didn't strike me as touristy, in fact the flavor (of the food at least) was much more "New Mexican home cooking" than most restaurants I've been to. Their red chile sauce is great! In my family at least, chile flavor is one the #1 factors in rating a restaurant . Last time we went was early afternoon on a Saturday. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table (for a party of 8) but they give you a beeper, and the train depot is right next door if you want to kill time looking around there.

but i remember a place with the word coyote in the name and even a small pic of a coyote in the sign on the building.

can anyone tell me the name of the "coyote place" as i call it? it was probably in the touristy area... i remember getting there by foot... goodness so many small memories are coming to me from my SF visit!
I went there with my wife and we spent around $220 without breaking a sweat. Luckily it was paid for with a gift certificate from a satisfied client! Nice food, but for a hundred bucks each it oughta be stellar. People love it, though - on a Tuesday night it was packed.
