A little update on Willow. The University of Alabama flew her out to Alabama this past weekend. They paid her to give a speech to Alabama business owners and disadvantaged children. She spoke with Miss Kay Robertson from the A&E TV Show Duck Dynasty. Here are a few photos from the conference.

So, this is Willow on the way to the airport in a Pikachu costume. Willow thought that if she wore the costume through the airport it would get her used to people staring at her and people asking her questions. It was her way of preparing for her speech.

The dress lasted about an hour and then she changed:

Thanks for all of your support Karen and Jim! I think she has learned a ton this year by doing all of the interviews and speeches. Right now she is concentrating on working with her producers on her reality show and getting signed to a network. Tomorrow she will be in the North Port Sun and sometime in the next week or so she will be in The Herald Tribune.

She does also have a 4.0 average and she is just finishing up her first year of high school when most of the kids her age are just beginning their school year. All this from a kid who was diagnosed with ADHD and was told if she didn't take medicine she probably wouldn't be very successful!

If I can figure out how to get her speech uploaded to YouTube I'll post it here

Willow closed on her second home about a week ago. She has an interview today with Home & Family TV and tomorrow with CNN Headline News. She is doing two CNN shows this week which will probably run early this week. Here are a few interviews she's done in the last week:

Wow, your heads must be spinning from all this, you said Shannon was diagnosed with adhd, and that she was told she needed meds, did she take them? My son, he's grown now, had adhd as well. Although I home schooled him for a time, while he attended public school I was told he could not attend unless medicated. I didn't object because I could see it really was necessary in his case.

Actually Willow was diagnosed with ADHD. Yes, she was on meds from about 4th grade until 7th grade. In the beginning of 7th grade she left public school and began homeschooling. The day she left public school, she stopped taking her ADHD meds. She's a different girl now. Before (in her words) she felt like a zombie and she just wasn't herself. Now when she gets antsy and cant stay still she just gets up and goes outside and rides her scooter around the block. It's not nearly as restrictive and she's thriving in a more flexible environment. It hasn't gone away but we just have a more unconventional way of dealing with it
