Looks like I will be moving to Sarasota. I am VERY excited, however a lot of apartments have GSDs on restricted list.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Anyone renting their home? Condo?

The problem is German Shepard is on the insurance company list of prohibited dogs. If a landlord rents to you, they are likely to have their insurance cancelled.

You need to find a rental home - homes are cheap to rent in North Port - just say your dog is a mix breed.

Yeah, just lie, until the insurance inspector comes to your house and cancels your landlord's insurance and you are evicted. If you want to move here with that breed, the only security you have is to buy your own home.

That you won't be able to insure?

Springs at Braden River did accept German Shepherds (at least last year they did). There are also one or two apt complexes in Lakewood Ranch that will accept a shepherd with a meet and greet with the dog. Don't remember the names at the moment as we decided to stay where we currently rent (which used to accept german shepherds but has since restricted them. Ours is grandfathered in).

have to agree. insurers will cover a home but exclude dogs, we had to buy a separate umbrella to cover our 3

Your best bet will be to try to find a private rental home. There actually are those out there who will consider a dog under certain circumstances. While I would never actually advise anyone to lie, it is true that insurances do not want to cover certain breeds. Take that as you will.

I wish you much luck. In this area rentals are already hard to come by, and having pets of any kind makes it that much more difficult.
