Seriously, where else have you lived? I think if you have lived in a good variety of places, you would realise Seattle really has a lot to offer. Just saying.

Boston, Atlanta, San Antonio, Upstate NY, Seattle, now Chicago. All as an adult. You?

Mmm, good variety, so kind of surprised you don't see Seattle's positives.

Myself: UK, Dallas, Virginia Beach, Reno, Honolulu, Hilo, Houston, Seattle. Almost all as adult (left UK at 16).
For me, Seattle is the best overall out of those (based mostly on climate and access to things I enjoy).

I lived in Seattle from 2000-2008 and for the most part, loved it there. I always raved about Seattle to friends and family back home in Cali, and most who visited seemed to enjoy it as well. (Although the sun always coincidentally came out whenever I got visitors.)

I visit once or twice a year now, and my opinion's slowly shifted. For one, at least among my social circles, it's very true Seattleliltes seem to exhibit a lot more pride for their city than others. My facebook feed is constantly inundated with Seattle weather updates whenever the weather is nice, complete with pictures of the natural surroundings and the like, and a caption expressing how much the poster loves their city. It can get annoying after a while.

And while I initially liked all the development going on the city (it is sooo dramatically different from when I first arrived in 2000), I feel like the rapid development and upscaling of the city has bred an increased snottiness. The kind that's associated with people who THINK they possess elite cultural tastes, and act accordingly. It's annoying because I KNOW this is all very new relatively speaking.

What I said is more of an observation than complaint. I'm mostly amused by the extreme civic pride, but it can get irritating when too extreme, that is all.

I think it's also that people go a little nuts here when the weather gets nice. It's not just that Seattle is pretty beautiful in the Summer, it's that we've been waiting six months for it.

Some have questioned why I would return to a Seattle board to post when I don't live there anymore, and this is a large reason why. It's hard to truly "escape" Seattle's weather (or at least not be reminded of it) when half your friend's list on Facebook is posting pictures of it when the weather's nice. The unnerving part is that they're misrepresenting to everyone outside of Seattle what the weather is actually like, and then when outsiders consider moving there, they go on boards like this which further reinforce those misconceptions. Then of course they do move there, hate it, and get told to leave. Seems like a second opinion from people who aren't in love with Seattle isn't such a bad idea...
