(I'm saying "odds". Of course it's not always true. Just saying).

Add that to the fact that they hire from all over the world. Lots of people from India, where one set of things is going to be expected socially. Lots from China, with different social norms. And then lots from all kinds of random corners of the world: if the country produces technical and capable people, chances are some of them work for Microsoft! So, while it might be perfectly normal to stand inches from someone during a conversation in China, here it's considered very rude. Given the number of religions and cultures represented around here, someone's probably getting offended every minute. I mean, how rude would it seem to an observant Muslim if someone kept offering you beer midday during Ramadan? But midday beers aren't uncommon at MS.
Almost all the people from India I met in the company are capable, smart people. They have different culture but they are never intentionally rude.

And please.... not every single Indian you see around Crossroad area is hired by Microsoft.

Yes. I agree. The Indians I have met have been soft spoken and kind and gracious people. Well, the shop keepers can drive a hard bargain, but one would expect that.

I never realized that the actions of a few people at Crossroads could definitively describe the personalities, motivations, and word-view of a billion+ Indians.

Those must be some seriously influential people.

Hey, there was a time in which my dad believed all Italians must have some connection to organized crime. When a person has limited contact with someone of another group, what that one person does often reflects on the entire group.

We tend to learn best from our own experience, the problem is that our experience is limited, so we read and try to draw on the experiences of others, which sometimes is equally untrue.

Don't doubt for one moment that there are not some white folk, buried in some nook or cranny of the US who see Barak and Michelle and are wondering if all they've been told about black folk might be wrong?

If I got bitten by a German Shepard I could possibly be unfairly leery of that breed in the future.

But this is a reaction that nature built into us - like, hopefully you will not try to touch fire to know that it burns, but if you do once you will probably never do so again.

These are survival 'gifts' of nature, but we also are given intellect which can rule over and around such instincts - hopefully we will not need to touch fire or have a large brood in an overpopulated world. Hopefully one terrorist does not make all Muslims or Arabs suspicious.

Or financiers and industrialists greedy to the detriment of society, my personal prejudice.

of course its facts there are many examples of racism that have nothing to do with white people how can you think that white people cause all of the race problems that just not even true.

in japan they believed that all other country's were full of barbarians and monsters and that their only hope was to go completely isolationist.

in Egypt they would enslave their neighbors to the south the Nubians because they believed that they were made by the gods to be better.

the arab people in history had many leaders who told them that people were black as a result of a curse from god.

in india sometimes the southern indians or dravidians (who have darker skin) are considered to be less by the northern indians who have mixed aryan blood making there skin lighter.

in burma the government sent soldeirs against the muslims and they have a racist slur for them kala

and have you heard of the khmer rouge?

plus there are definitely black and mexican in the united states people who publicaly voice there hatred of white people. a belief that is supported by your belief that all racism is caused by white people.

Whites are least prejudiced? I'm not sure that's true, but I'd be glad if it is.

Here's the thing, with all the experience you have garnered, and all the people you've met, and from the sound of it, the places you've seen -- you still are doing what a person -- who has not gone to many places, not met many different people, not done many different things, etc etc -- would do -- making generalizations.

Also from your statements about conquering India, it seems you're probably not as knowlegable -- so I don't hold it against you.

When did Muslims become a race? Aryans is an ancient race, but Muslims are followers of Islam, and most of the Islamic invasion of India was done by Iranians (Indo-Aryans).

But anyway, can we get a closure on this thread? Can some admin close this pointless thread that has nothing to do with the Seattle area?

Thanks.
its impossible to have information without generalizations to analyze every single person would be to hard saying things like cigarettes cause cancer is a generalization to as not everybody who smokes gets cancer but you dont have a problem with that i bet generalizations are and effective and and will continue to be an effective way to spread information.

however just like every way to spread information it can be used in a bad way

We all live under the same sky, we all will live, we all will die, there is no wrong, there is no right, a circle only has one side. A quote from the song, "Side", sung by my favorite band, "Travis". Just wanted to share this portion of the lyrics to everyone for daily inspirational thoughts.

Please tell me; or better to say don't tell me, you people are still around on the Net? First, almost everyone here is exceptionally racist in one form or another. Which is odd .. Racists complaining about supposed "rude" Xenophobes? Have any of you seen the big interracial African American and Indian American film with Denzel Washington? I could go on; for those ignorant enough to disagree , but I'll just say this is 2014 not 2008. In 2014 Seattle is the most progressive city, in one of the most progressive states. An Official Socialist representative democratically elected. Long/Short ... Seattle is a strong hold of leftist progressivism and egalitarianism. Please move, your opinions are not welcome.

Don't blame Indian racism on the Brits. The Indian caste system is older than colonialism, and the higher castes were traditionally lighter-skinned.

One of the silliest delusions of the extreme fringes of PC Left is this notion that, pre-colonialism, the entire non-European world was a matriarchal paradise, where people lived in a state of equality, peace, sharing, cooperation, feminism, and respect for the environment.

Then the white European male invented patriarchy, war, class divisions, pollution, racism, and every bed thing under the sun.

Truth is, the entire world was always filled with patriarchy, war, class divisions, pollution, racism, etc., etc.

Indian culture is very traditional and conservative. I'm Indian myself, albeit born and raised in the U.S.

In our culture, the interracial marriage is very uncommon and not regarded well. It's not necessarily due to racism, but more so because Indians mainly want their culture and customs to be intact and passed down from generation to generation. Most of the Indians in the Bellevue/Redmond area are very new to America, so seeing another Indian married outside his/her race is viewed negatively. That person is viewed as somebody who sold out on their culture. Respect for elders is a huge part of Indian culture, and when somebody marries outside of their race it usually means that person disrespected the wishes of their elders.

Although I was born and raised in the states, I must admit I will only marry another Indian (who is also "Americanized"). I want to spend the rest of my life with somebody raised with the same culture and traditions I was, and I want my children to experience the same.
