The 9-10 day incubation period is scary. I flew through 3 major airports in the last 10 days.
The Chinese published all flights numbers which the infected people were using so flying public could know if they were exposed.
The incubation period of 1- 14 days is infectious- and without symptoms
They try to reach to flight crew and all passengers.
They recommend self-isolation for 14 days.
Currently they tracking more than 24 thousands people as of yesterday..
Actually, I am quite impressed with the way they handling the emergency - a lot of regular Chinese people do a lot of heroic work...from what I am reading

2 confirmed cases in CA- LA, OC
3 possible cases in VA under observation

Originally, the virus infection pathway was animal to human.
Out of nearly 600 samples from the market in Wuhan- majority of virus was found in a wild animals part of the market ( as of now all wild animals trade banned until further notice)
The source of virus is still undetermined...
Currently the virus had mutated and became more infectious and infection pathway now - is straight human to human.
They expected the number of cases to rapidly grow..mainly because no symptoms during infectious period during incubation- unusual for a virus
More mutations with the unknown outcome is possible.
Currently mutations constitute only 1% of virus compared to the ones found in the environment, in past patients and in recent patients.

Being infectious before symptoms of a viral illness appear is actually quite common. Measles is contagious up to about four days before the rash appears, for example.

Any other examples of other viruses being infectious during incubation period -no symptoms- like 2019-nCov?
I am sure you come after me with guns blazing!

What is your point in this discussion of novel corona virus?

I don’t understand how is your favorite subject of measles is relevant here, especially that you are incorrect
Rash is not the first symptom of measles. I am sure you know. Malaise, fever, coryza, etc- post-incubation, prodrome - which precedes rash, yes- the person is infectious, 4 days on average before and especially after rash appearance, but after incubation period

Let me re-iterate: one of the difficulties in managing this new unknown corona virus is specifically due to it being infectious during an incubation period- as far as it is being discovered in China.

Chinese infectious disease specialists with boots on the ground, a lot of them sick, some of them already dead telling us the results of their current research and observations of the still changing virus,
It is a new virus- they studying it and working on vaccines simultaneously, while trying to find ways to control the growing epidemic

I am not in the mood to continue arguing with you, Suzie. Pointless.
Go start a new thread on measles .
Here we are sharing the information about 2019-nCov and its impact in China and potentially in our country.
You are welcome to share the relevant info on 2019-nCov

You are correct, but you are preventing them from scaring themselves. That's why they're here.

The worst recorded pandemic, the Black Death in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, almost never killed more than 50% of a population. This was at a time when there was no knowledge of germs.

It took most people with HIV over 10 years before getting sick from it and many of them were spreading the disease with no knowledge that they were infected during that time.

To bring this relevant to this thread, they are experimentally using two HIV antiviral drugs on this new corona virus: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/20...t-wuhan-virus/

I believe combining hersheys and beer creates a complete protein but i think you're bunkering up a month too soon, you might want to go to the store first.
