Well, I, for one am GLAD that he not only killed the snakes, but their people, and dog chomping progeny as well.
The only good rattlesnake, is a DEAD rattlesnake. I have a friend that almost lost a leg from being bitten by one when he was camping in Arizona. The leg that that they "saved" looks almost as "gross" as the innerds of that one snake, and is almost useless. The snake crawled into his tent one night, and when he got up to go outside to relieve himself in the middle of the night, it struck his leg twice. I have NO USE FOR THEM what so ever, except for hatbands. Brie

AMEN. The damage they can do is incredible.

By the same token, I hope that people will leave the non-venomous snakes alone so the nasty rodent population will be kept down!

LOL.

I made a habit of sleeping on a cot when camping in your part of the world, and even then was nearly bitten by a rattler when I didn't look before getting out of "bed." That experience gave me an idea for this 1979-era painting by me. The "cause celebre" is located in bottom right (under the cot). Title is "Rude Awakening." The enlarged detail is me, or at least I posed for the part (self-portrait).

If you're planning to ride out there on the flats, you better be prepared for all those goatheads, mesquite thorns and whatever! Solid foam tires might work, but certainly teflon reinforcement bands and a load of "slime" will keep you going for awhile as long as you always carry a tire pump.

I LIKE the artwork, it says a lot about living anywhere in the desert Southwest. Brie
