i would pay 1000 for it. on the pictures it says that the timing belt is done in 1997, at 50k miles. thats 16 years ago, so it needs a timing belt replacement(500).
so, for 5,500 why dont i just buy a 2002 camry with 130k on it? much safer, roomier, fuel efficient, and its probably quicker.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I am not considering this car anymore. Overpriced, new timing belt, a V6 with known head gasket problems and who knows what else.
They won't go below 4K. This is the message they sent me. I offered them 3K.
"Hello John,
We do not simply re-sell vehicles that we purchase from the auction like most dealers do, we check them, personally drive, and recondition. On this exact vehicle we did head gasket (one side) new radiator, new antifreeze, new valve cover gasket, we also cleaned and repainted the valve cover, new thermostat, and possibly something else. We check brakes, brake lines, A/C, power widows, power mirrors, power seats, and if anything is not working we fix it or replace it.
$4000 is the minimum we can do on this vehicle considering all the repairs we did on it."
I know that a lot of people here are saying that they'd do $1,500 - $2,000 but the reality is that this car will sell for at least $4,000. Frankly, I'd tell 'em that I would pay their sticker price out the door if they gave me a fresh tune-up (plugs, wires, whatever valves and filters would ordinarily be changed, etc), new timing belt, and a full tank of gas. (That's $4,995 "out the door", not $4,995 "plus tax, tags, title, and doc fee".)
^^^91 camry would hardly qualify as a classic or antique. Repair bill? As noted, one of the easiest DIY cars I've had
Come 2016, in most states it would qualify for antique vehicle license plates. Some states give 'em out at 20 years of age.
However, we shall not soon see 1990's-era Camry wagons sporting antique plates cruising in Memorial Day parades. They're just not classic enough.
But there is someone out there who wants an old station wagon like this, and let's face it, it HAS obviously been very well cared for. It recently passed PA inspection and emissions, which sure as heck ain't easy, and it's probably less expensive to work on than other comparable newer cars.

Without the cars history theres no telling how well the car has been maintained all we know is it looks ok and it passed inspection. is it original paint, original engine? has it been rebuilt after a major wreck, while the mileage appears low theres just no way to verify it, not a car i would be interested in as theres just too much not known and for $4K theres better options available.
I think I would rather have this car, but I would need to have it shipped from NC to NJ.
