I bought the first series and watched it before watching this new one. They are following it closely but not entirely close. I like some of each series better than the other one and wish I could splice them together on what I like best from both.
I enjoyed the first season and read the books, but that was 40 years ago! I can barely remember what I did yesterday. I'm enjoying this season and not worrying about trying to compare it to the first.
