Get used to it. That's my biggest disappoint then the show even has dark as DD was it had more humor in it. There was humor in JJ but it wasn't always in your face it was hidden & easy to miss at times. I hope next season is better & she isn't as self-loathing. When Tennent came into play it was much better, it was like he was carrying her to some extent.

Why would anyone complain about Jessica Jones being too loathing? Her character had her parents die in the same crash that got her her powers, had a crazed lunatic with mental powers take over her and killed people for that man. That s*** just don't go away. Maybe she will be less but I happen to like that grit to her. It is a nice shift in tone that while I don't want from all my movies (take note DC who offer the sane tone movie to movie based on trailers) is a nice break from the standard we get whether Marvel, X-Men or DC, even Dare Devil.

It's a catch-22 I get that. Then again there are a lot of heroes who lost someone or something to becomes the people who they are now. DD, Spiderman, Wolverine, Batman, Dr. Strange. I could go on but that's enough. Yes, there are something's that stay with you but at some point you push on I know some where in the comics ( I can't recall where) JJ has a child not sure whose it was though.

Self-loathing is not "grit."

Yes but the traumatic elements were not often things the hero did themself. Jones, she killed for Kilgrave and Lord knows what else she did for him while most other heroes don't kill. Batman don't, Superman don't (unless needed), Spider-Man only has one death to his name and that was an accident that changed his life. That said, Spider-Man is a much different tone than Jessica Jones ever was. Jones was gritty from the start while Spider-Man gets dark at times but typically is a light comic and movie series.

Late to the conversation, but I thought she was a breath of fresh air. It's nice seeing a superhero you can actually relate to. And it's doubly nice to see a woman be the hbic.

agreed - while Spidey had tragedy in his life with Uncle Ben, he's generally always been the wisecracking hero in the comics.

Plus, I think when Spidey started in the 60s, comics in general were much less dark overall in tone. Sure, there was tragedy and death, but it wasn't quite at the level of what came in the mid to late 80s and later when graphic novels really picked up, and still further in the 21st century. (Frank Miller's original Dark Knight series in the mid 80s was when I really noticed the difference in tone)

Dare Devil was off and on dark until about the late 1970's or so.

i dont know why the entertainment media is pushing this show so hard, I thought it was awful. I watch a couple epsiosols. I was tolerated it s little, it was pretty boring, but when she started having sex with the black dude. it was over. Just another force it in your face by the hollywood crowd. I was hoping it be better, kinda like the ritter gurl, but the show sucks.
