Right now with all the reality shows & summer shows I have nothing to watch on TV except this and wow I was freaking out a little wondering what the hell the Commander was up to. I thought he found out about June and Nick and was going to do something awful to her.

I read the book, saw the Natasha Richardson movie, but don't have Hulu. I found this article from a March 2017 New York Times article Margaret Atwood wrote about the conception of her own book.

Thank you so much for posting this article!
The show is great. They give some back story to a few characters that are not in the book, but I actually like it. I'd love to see it have another season at least.... there is so much more to tell, and it is so beautifully done. I could handle the original end of course, but I'd always want more of this story.
I'm not sure how I felt about it. I liked it better than the episode about Luke.
Trying to think more philosophically I guess, I would have to say that the episode was really about portrayal of this societies hypocrisy and that you can't really change the nature of people. I think it's really interesting that the Commander, at the start, was so in love with his wife and so righteous. Well, look at him now. Look at what this type of restriction on society does to people. I also enjoyed seeing Nick's backstory and how he got to the position he was in.
I agree with you about the portrayal of hypocrisy and how trying to control everything and everyone always backfires. Maybe I should give the episode another watch. I didn't like seeing Nick's backstory for some reason. Not sure why?
