I have about another month on Tier III in CA, and after that, will just have Tier IV left. I read somewhere in this forum that if you start Tier IV after Sept. 2nd, that the maximum benefit is 10 weeks (versus a max benefit of just four weeks if Tier IV starts before 9/2).

Question: Right now, Tier III is set to end around mid-August. Can I delay the start of Tier IV by not collecting benefits for a week or two so that Tier IV will kick in after Sept. 2nd?

I am frantically looking for work, but so far -- nothing. I do have an interview scheduled for this week, so fingers crossed, but nothing definite yet so if this job does not come through, I definitely need to make my benefits last as long as possible under the circumstances. I have the funds (just barely) to tide me over for any gap weeks. It's a high wire financial act, what can I say. Sick of this.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone else done this? I just don't want there to be a 'problem' or delay in starting up Tier IV. I would (at that point) have zero resources to recover from a delay.

Thank you all -- great forum, btw.

Your answer is here, in FAQS:
Quote:
In order to access Tier 4 for 10 weeks, you must exhaust Tier 3 no earlier than September 8, 2012. If it appears you will be exhausting Tier 3 on 9/1 or earlier, you might still access 10-week Tier 4 if you are willing to suspend claiming the appropriate number of weeks by which you are missing the 9/8 eligibility date.

This strategy was recently discussed, here: Tier 4 in CA

The topic of skipping weeks to collect 10 weeks on tier 4 is being addressed here.

While Sep 2 is the correct date, you still have to have money in tier 3 on Sep 8 to pull it off.
