What I'm thinking of is a possible problem with your "face memory", or the memories you store of other people's faces. That can be affected, for example, in certain types of temporal lobe epilepsy. Many neurological "events" like this seem to happen like this as just one-off occurrences without a proper explanation. If you also suffer from funny turns, deja vu or moments of derealisation/depersonalisation, or there's a family history of these things, it would be significant enough for you to speak to your medical practitioner about it.
lots of interesting responses. i do have a couple instances of deja vu a year, but i thought was normal. like a very strong feeling that "this" happened before or i dreamed "this".
I hate to say this, but the medical and scientific world has just as many explanations for weird things as those who believe in ghosties, ghoulies, aliens, ufos, elfs, goblins. The trouble is that we are supposed to take their holy word for it rather than our own experiences. There are syndromes and conditions for this and that, and even hearing voices and seeing images have to be limited otherwise we are unstable or ready for the funny-farm. So, although they like to explain these things with confidence and knowing(ie:BS), there are some areas where they still dont know diddly. Until science and religion get together and make peace with each other, there will continue to be a conflict of different explanations.
