We are considering looking into my husband working at the casino here when they open. We know NOTHING about the area. He's been in the Vegas casino biz for many years (Pit Boss), but we're looking for change. The area seems quite expensive and congested, so not sure if that would be worth it for us. We normally are "suburban neighborhood" types, rather than "city" people. But since we have no children, we might not mind being "city" people for a while...a new experience. Any thoughts on how bad the traffic might be for my hubby getting into/out of the casino? What if we lived right IN National Harbor. Could he easily drive to work? Since he'd likely work until 3 or 4 am, public transportation might not be available.

I am hopelessly blind here. I've never even been to visit D.C., so I barely know where to start. (Plus it's late and I really need to get to sleep. LOL)
I think you should stay in Vegas based on what you prefer. While the casino is technically located in the suburbs the area is quite congested since it's near major thoroughfares , housing costs more and is it's just very different than Las Vegas.

If you lived in or near the National Harbor he could walk to work. There is also metro bus. The NH! routes around the area to one of the metro stations so that is a possibility. They will be starting a NH2 in the Fall which will connect Alexandria VA to National Harbor. Both will run late and I am sure that MGM will or can schedule hours around the transportation if you have to use the bus.

The prices (be it buying or renting) are on the high side for the immediate area but not bad when you consider the the entire metro area. There are options in the surrounding community depending on your budget and tastes. some area are better than others.

My recommendation would be to take a weekend trip to get a feel for the area. Include a day to test rush hour (Tues-Thurs) to see what would work for you.
