That may have been the case as this was not the article that I originally read. I am sure part of the increase is attributed to the cost of materials and labor.

I'm looking forward to this. Whoever thought there would one day be a casino hotel in the DC area?

Miss World is coming to The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor.

How big is this for MGM? I think MGM now has a hard opening date in early December or they will miss all those visitors. It would suck if they had their doors closed during this event.

Also, does being next to DC and in National Harbor with all of their events and conferences give an advantage to MGM National Harbor over Maryland Live! and The Horseshoe in Baltimore? Gaylord already has the National Spelling Bee, Cirque du Soleil, Christmas Ice sculptures, fun runs, etc.

Maryland Live! is still just a casino next to an outlet mall in the outer suburbs. Even with their new hotel and convention floor space, it will be hard to pull events like the National Spelling Bee away from National Harbor.

Quote:
“This is even better than the Super Bowl,” said Jim Coleman, president and chief executive of the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation, which has been lobbying for the event for nearly a year. “This is a huge win for our county.”

The pageant will culminate in a grand finale at Gaylord National on Sunday, Dec. 18. More than 2 billion people are expected to tune in. (The Super Bowl, by comparison, had 111.9 million viewers this year.)

The Las Vegas-style casino and resort will open to guests on Dec. 8, 2016, the casino announced Monday.
"After years of planning, designing and developing, we are thrilled that the moment is almost upon us to share this very special resort with the community and visitors from around the world,” said Lorenzo Creighton, president of MGM National Harbor.
The MGM National Harbor Casino has more the 125,000 square feet of casino space and dining options curated by celebrity chefs.
If all that eating and gambling wears you out, you can book a stay in one of the resort's luxury rooms. Guests looking to stay anytime after Dec. 10 can book a room online or by phone. Room rates start at $399 while suite rates start at $599.
The Theater at MGM National Harbor will also host concerts, comedy shows, UFC fights and boxing matches.
