Are there going to be three more upscale restaurants in addition to the ones from Samuelsson, Andres, and Voltaggio brothers?
It sounds like "Tap" and "Ginger" are going to round out the restaurant options along with Bellagio Patisserie

I'm not sure if anyone knew about this, but MGM National Harbor's website has changed. It contains some new renderings of what the interior will look like including one of the restaurants.

I guess they pushed it back a week.

The Prince George's Community College Dealer School, launching May 16, is a partnership between the community college and MGM. Led by "seasoned industry professionals," per a release, the dealer school will offer candidates classes in traditional games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat.

And this is what is going to separate the weak from the strong. I remember when they opened Tanger they had to rescind offers from 50% of the people because they couldn't pass the background check. This one will be even more rigorous because, in addition to Maryland, they have to meet the standard set by Las Vegas' governing body.

All candidates, including those with previous experience, must successfully audition on dealing two games, demonstrate "exceptional customer service skills," consent to mandatory drug testing and background checks, and be approved for a dealers license awarded by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission.

I have a feeling they will get people from outside of the area. With Maryland being so new to gambling, there's not really a strong number of people with those skills here. Ideally, they should have started some training program when construction started. It could have been a two year certification track and been completed by now.

I agree. If they need to recruit 1000 people for the gaming area alone, there will definitely be some that are recruited from outside of the area. Some will also be poached from some of the existing MD casinos. I was thinking about those that are new to the field being able to successfully pass the vetting process. From what I have noticed, there has always been a hiccup with mass hiring efforts at the NH. It happened with the Gaylord and Tanger. They are always able to land on their feet and get things done but it is a challenge that is reoccurring.

That would have been a good idea but I am sure that their training will be ongoing. Besides most people have a hard time sitting in training for a week so I imagine the retention rate for two years would be abysmal. Especially for those that don't like "school"

Now on one end a two year program would really filter out those that can't cut it but would the ROI be worth it for pre-applicants? Also, I know that PGCC, BCCC, and AACC have AA programs focused on hospitality/casino management. I can see those being feeders for MGM. I guess we will have to see as things move forward.

I will say this, training that definitely needs to be done and be ongoing is customer service. That is one thing that is lacking with people in the local service/retail/hospitality industry nowadays. I don't know how many times I have walked into a store in this area and seen one of the employees on their personal cell while on the floor. If I had done that when I was working retail in HS/College I would have been fired. Same goes for not greeting a customer or having a big a** smile on your face when they walked through the door as well as having a positive attitude and strong product knowledge. When I worked in that industry we were always getting trained and tested on some aspect of our job (and most of these were part-time). A lot of places don't seem to put that level of effort and expectation in their employees anymore.

That said if MGM can master that element here as they have done in Las Vegas, they will set themselves apart from most entertainment establishments around the DMV.

From what I recall from the expansion. The original radius was 5 miles. Based on a posting from NYCtoDC there is a discussion to reduce it to a 3 mile radius.

Thanks, 3 mile seems appropriate but if they decide 5 Mile as the impact area then I think they should use some kind of formula, like 50% of the budget goes to neighborhood inside the 2 Mile radius , 30% to the next 2 mile and remaining 20% to the last 1 Mile radios.

Wonder what happened to this idea about indoor skydiving at National Harbor.

Where will iFly land in the Washington area? National Harbor has the inside track, Metni said. He said he had inquired about other properties developed by the Peterson Cos., such as Fairfax Corner, but that Peterson executives “were real keen on having us go to National Harbor.”

“The interesting thing is they keep trying to steer me toward National Harbor, which is making me wonder whether they need help there,” he said.
Interesting how things turn out though. In 2012, National Harbor was only about 4 years off the ground.
