I mean in Bible thumping Indiana you can buy hard liquor is CVS for cryin out loud.
All alcohol law for all counties in Md is decided in Annapolis. County Councils can make requests but have no votes on the issue.

A decade ago we had to go to Annapolis to get s bill passed and signed by Governor to change the liquor law as it applies to College Park so that the Fishnet restaurant could apply to the County for a beer/wine license. Thank God their was no opposition. It still was not all that easy.

Rental housing developer Greystar, in a public/private partnership with the university’s nonprofit arm, has broken ground on a new, $140 million, 788-bed student housing community. The 348-apartment units in the nine-story building — as of yet unnamed — will include floor plans from studios to four bedrooms, each with a private bath for each student.
The project will also include outdoor grilling stations, yard games, common space, quiet study areas, a clubroom and two-story fitness center.
There will also be 20,000-square-feet of retail space.
The student housing apartment building will be at 4340 Knox Road and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.

THe liquor store lobby must be powerful. I'm sure a survey would show that people would feel more safe purchasing wine and beer in a grocery store than a liquor store. Not all liquor stores are in seedy areas, but it would be way more convenient to pick a nice Pinot with some cheese and crackers and a nice ribeye. Just sayin.

Whatever happened to the Art Gallery that UMD partnered with? Was it the Phillips Art Gallery? Weren't they supposed to build a gallery or something in College Park?

Wow, I forgot about that. I hope there is still some chance this could happen. Need some unique ventures such as this, to improve in the quest to make College Park a better college town.

Unfortunately, this website on the Phillips Gallery Page highlights the partnership with UMD, but makes no mention of a facility in College Park being in the future plans. https://www.phillipscollection.org/a...c-partnerships

The liquor stores do lobby but it's the wholesalers who are the big guns. There's even an "alcohol" day in Annapolis when the industry goes to lobby.

So I believe the new arts + entertainment complex built by Scott Plank is the Hall CP. Sounds like they wanted to repurpose a space for a gallery nearby the hotel and the hall cp.
